 '2022 Our Year' is a year for young people and children in Manchester. Working with partners, ambassadors and supporters, 2022 Our Year will create opportunities, experiences and resources that together will build a safe, happy, healthy and successful future for Manchester’s children and young people and contribute to Manchester’s goal of becoming a UNICEF-recognised Child Friendly City. The campaign aims to leave a lasting legacy on the future generation of young people who live in Manchester. It will be a year-long campaign of listening and acting together to create a programme of activities, opportunities and experiences for children and young people that has an effect long into their futures.  Citizen Advice Manchester currently have a pot of funding for Manchester residents who may be struggling financially. Families can receive support of up £100. There are no fixed criteria, and Citizens Advice will speak to residents directly to assess. If you or someone you know needs this support, you can make an in house referral to Citizens Advice Manchester via email to Hayley Hughes on Hayley.hughes@citizensadvicemanchester.org.uk or contact Citizens advice themselves either via phone 0808 278 7800 or on their website.

On Monday 17 January, the E-Cargo bike launch took place in St Peters Square along with new leader of Manchester City Council, Bev Craig, Manchester Bike Hire and the M.E.N. The new bike hire scheme will be launched in the next few weeks in Manchester city centre. Manchester Bike Hire, along with members of Manchester City Council, showcased the new eCargo bikes. The bikes will be available for businesses and the public across the region at the start of next month, with a total of 26 eCargo bikes and six eCargo trailers being made available across the city for those looking for an alternative transport across the city.  Manchester was proud to host Boxx United Manchester World Indoor Tour event at Manchester Regional Arena. The first in the World Athletics Indoor Tour series. Organised in partnership with Bryggen Sports, Cherry and Co and British Athletics, the event saw 15 athletes achieve World Qualification marks and 45 athletes achieved Personal Best’s. The event was the first of two world events we will host in Manchester this year- with the Boxx United Manchester World Athletics Continental Tour being hosted at the Arena on 3rd June 2022.  Formerly known as the University of Manchester playing fields, the Wythenshawe Sports Ground is a new state of the art playing facility available to residents for hire. The ground and forms part of the Wythenshawe Forum and features 26 high quality grass pitches perfect for 11, 9, or 7 a side football and Rugby for you to book an play on, alongside a large spectator's area surrounding each of the pitches. The venue also includes a Pavilion building, with assessable indoor space if required and ample parking for visitors and users. The outdoor space is also available for hire for community and large-scale events, tailored to your needs. Initially formalised by Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, the aim of the Greater Manchester Youth Combine Authority (GMYCA) is to give young people in Greater Manchester the opportunity to have their voices heard, and influence GMYCA policy and decision making. In its first three years, GMYCA members have helped contribute to the development of policies, strategies and decisions on issues ranging from free bus travel, to tackling knife crime to the environment. The Youth Combined Authority is opening up its membership. Young people with a passion for social change and desire to influence Greater Manchester’s decision-making at the highest level are invited to get involved with the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority. The GMYCA is looking for young people across Greater Manchester to apply.  After a series of online polls, the public have decided that We Love MCR Charities' next fundraising event will be a daring abseil at dizzying heights off one of the towers that make up Manchester’s growing skyline! The event will take place in July and the Charity expects it will be over-subscribed. They have just opened their pre-registration list for brave fundraisers to reserve their place "on the rope". The secret location has not been revealed, but We Love MCR promises it will be somewhere very special. Complete this form to pre-register your place.
