Learner success
After a difficult time in his life, Christopher Martin decided to brush up on his English skills in order to apply for a university course. As he lived in Wythenshawe, he joined a class at our Forum Learning Centre to study Level 2 English. Here’s how he felt about his time at MAES:
“I was anxious at first; it was totally new, but my teacher was great at making us all feel relaxed and at ease. I received lots of support from the teacher and was directed to other support services if I needed them. This included help with careers advice and finding work. The resources were fantastic as well. Laptops were available if I needed one for online learning and the staff were really nice and helpful. I felt really empowered completing my course. It has given me a lot of confidence going into my next stage of education.”
It’s wonderful to hear you had such a positive experience returning to education with MAES. Best of luck in your future studies, Christopher!

Sustainability
Sustainability is a word we’re hearing more and more often these days, but what does it mean and how are we playing our part at MAES?
Sustainability means continuing to live and grow on Earth without risking the future of the planet.
In our Google Staffroom, we are sharing resources to prompt discussion and action, including ‘Sustainability Starts’. These have been developed by adult education teachers (including a team from MAES) to raise awareness and start conversations with learners.

To reduce the amount of paper we use, this year we launched our new paper-free enrolment system. Learners can go online to create an account with us, complete their assessment (which is checked by the relevant team) and then they are emailed an enrolment link. Anyone who needs help with this system can book on to a face-to-face appointment to get support.

Get Online Week 2021
After a year of lockdowns, we were really looking forward to face-to-face events this year and we were not disappointed!
With our partners from Communications, the Intranet team and the Microsoft 365 Digital Champions, we travelled across the city to help council colleagues with their tech issues. We solved WhatsApp problems, answered OneDrive queries, shared the benefits of the Intranet and ate way too much chocolate!
We also hosted events in libraries with our friends from the council's Digital Inclusion team. MAES teachers were on hand to help anyone get online (as part of our regular Skill Up drop-in sessions) and the Digital Inclusion team offered advice on how to access devices, data and training.

Get Online Week also saw the launch of Manchester’s new digital inclusion campaign, Let’s Get Digital, of which MAES is a proud partner.

Look out for our posters, stickers and tote bags around town and you can find more info on the brand new website:
