Our October Drop In
Our next virtual drop in is Wednesday 20th October, 10am-12 noon. As usual, we’ll be sending out a list of who’s taking part a few days before. Look out for it in your inbox. After this date, we'll be returning to face to face drop ins. The first will be in North Manchester at Manchester Youth Zone, Harpurhey on Wednesday 17th November, 10am-12 noon.
There’s such a lot of information out there for families. If you can’t find what you need, you’re invited to contact Ali on the Local Offer team. Whatever the question, she will do her best to signpost in a way that is geared to you and where you live in the city. It might be:
- What fun activities are in my local area?
- I’m struggling - is there anyone I can talk to?
- Where can I get help with benefits?
Email ali.davenport@manchester.gov.uk or call/text 07971 587963. Ali usually works Monday to Thursday mornings and will get in touch as soon as she can.

As shared in the last issue, Manchester Libraries' Black History Month programme includes ‘Aleiah’s Adventure’, a children’s play about the journey of a young black girl with a hearing impairment who is introduced to the stories of three inspirational black historic Mancunians. This 50 minute play is for families with children aged 7-11+ and has British Sign Language and Visual Movement throughout. See the programme for information.

Worried About Price Increases?
You may be worried about the increase in energy prices this winter and how it could affect your energy bills. There are plenty of options to help you save, such as switching suppliers or changing tariffs. Contact your energy supplier to explain what you can pay and when, and they are bound to support you fairly. Visit the Citizen’s Advice website for more information. If you meet certain criteria or claim particular benefits, you can apply for Manchester City Council’s help to pay for fuel scheme and the Government’s Warm Home Discount, cold weather payment or winter fuel payment.

What To Do If Your Supplier Goes Bust
Due to the increase in wholesale global gas prices and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we may see more suppliers than usual exiting the energy market. You won’t stop receiving gas and electricity. Ofgem, the energy supplier regulator, will automatically switch you to a new supplier so there won't be any interruption. If you are notified that your energy supplier is going out of business, there are some simple steps you can take:
|
Get On The Priority Register
The Priority Services Register is a free support service to help people in vulnerable situations. Each energy supplier and network operator keeps their own register. Check out this Ofgem information to see if you're eligible.

Flu Vaccinations
We’re going into flu season. Flu vaccination is especially important this year because:
- more people are likely to get flu this winter as fewer people will have built up natural immunity to it during the COVID-19 pandemic
- if you get flu and COVID-19 at the same time, research shows you're more likely to be seriously ill
- getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 will provide protection for you and those around you for both these serious illnesses
If you've had COVID-19, it's safe to have the flu vaccine. It will still be effective at helping to prevent flu. Find out who can have the vaccine and where to get it.
Covid Updates
Unpaid carers aged over 16 are eligible for a third Covid 'booster' vaccine this winter, as well as people aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 and adult household contacts (aged 16 or over) of immunosuppressed individuals. You will be invited for your third dose at least 6 months after your second dose. Please wait to be contacted by the NHS. Read more information.
|
Everyone aged 12 and over is now eligible for at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Keep up to date on vaccinations here.
