Children and Families May Newsletter
We have a definite “Spring” in our step now that May is here! Our latest newsletter is full of fantastic online offerings, and most of Manchester Libraries are now open to the public again- they continue to operate with social distancing in place and all returned books are quarantined for 72 hours. Spanish Storytime at Manchester Central Library
We’ve missed her, but it's time to say ‘hola’ to our fabulous Spanish storytime volunteer, Maria once again!
Join Maria in our popular Storytime on Saturday 15 May 2pm - 3pm in Manchester Central Library. There will be a story and craft activity suitable for children aged 4-7.

Read all about our local heroes!
The results of our creative writing are in and our exhibition is now live! The Read Manchester Connecting Stories online exhibition showcases some of the fantastic entries we received from children and young people on the theme of local and everyday heroes.
Head over to the website hosted by our partners, Z-Arts to see our gallery of creative writing and to try out some poetry workshops too!

Tutti Frutti Story Time
FREE FAMILY TICKETS AVAILABLE
Tutti Frutti are offering nine wonderful digital stories written and created by global majority and disabled artists. Join in to discover some fabulous children’s books that shine a spotlight on these lovely illustrated stories and talented creatives.
Every week a new story is released, suitable for children aged 3+, for families to watch at home. All videos are subtitled, and the last five videos have a BSL version available.
Sign up here for free access to the stories. You only need to sign up once to receive links and a password for the whole series of stories, which can be viewed anytime. Watch and join in the craft activity at the end of each story and share on social media (@tuttifruttiprod) or email Sophie your wonderful creations, this will also enter you into our prize draw to win a copy of the book!

The National Football Museum
The wait is almost over! Tickets for the National Football Museum are now on sale. The museum is set to reopen on Thursday 27 May. They have a star-studded line-up of new objects and exhibitions which includes: The Laws of the Game, English Football Hall of Fame and The oldest surviving FA Cup!
Timed tickets are available - book your slot and start planning your visit. All tickets are valid for 12 months - so you can visit as many times as you like

Visitors can head back to the national museum of democracy to explore the past, present, and future of ideas worth fighting for through the museum’s stories, collections, and unique building. People’s History Museum is partnering with Manchester’s leading conscious food company, Open Kitchen. Open Kitchen at People’s History Museum will be the first museum cafe and bar in the country that intercepts food that would otherwise go to waste.

It's really cold outside and we're all hoping it's going to snow. Yeah! Derek and I could make a snow Rooster and have a snowball fight (look out, Delia!). Granny Mavis has started to knit me a new winter jumper, but by the looks of things I'm not sure it's going to fit ...

Rough and Tumble - Playground Games
Children....Mums & Dads..... Grandmas and Grandads!
What are your Favourite Playground Games? Chalk? Marbles or Mancala? Hopscotch or Handstands? Rollerskating or Red Rover?
Emily O'Shea Dance Company is working with Beswick Library to research and explore playground games and we want to hear about your best times playing games and having fun! Old games, new ones - we want to hear them all. Tell us or draw us your favourite games here. Or if you live in Beswick or North Manchester, pop into your local library and pick up a free activity sheet!

Our Digital Offer
Reading Rascals book club - This new online book club for 8-12 year olds has been developed by the library team. Each month there will be a fun-filled activity newsletter with a brand new theme, such as Books on Screen, Mysteries or celebrating a popular author. Children are encouraged to access books for free online from Manchester Libraries or from other platforms offering free reads (Borrowbox and Libby app). For our babies and toddlers we have an online Storytime every Tuesday at 11am. Check it out on the Manchester Libraries Facebook page- we look forward to you joining us!
