National Lockdown restrictions
Further to the Prime Minister’s announcement that certain businesses must close again from Thursday 5th November 2020, hospitality venues like hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and pubs must close with certain exceptions which are set out in the Regulations.
Pubs, bars (including bars in hotels or members’ clubs), cafes, social clubs and restaurants
You may only sell alcohol for consumption off the premises in one of the following ways:
-
By making deliveries in response to orders received via a website, phone/text or post;
-
To a purchaser who collects food or drink that has been pre-ordered by a means mentioned above, provided the purchaser does not enter inside the premises to do so;
-
To a purchaser who collects food and drink in a vehicle, and to whom the food and drink is passed without the purchaser or any other person leaving the vehicle.
Between 5am and 10pm, it is permitted for customers to enter the premises to collect takeaway food or non-alcoholic drink orders but not alcohol. Beyond 10pm, all service must be limited in line with the 3 methods outlined above.
Where an activity is licensed e.g. sale of alcohol, late night refreshment; it must still only be carried out during times permitted by your premises licence.
Alcohol cannot be sold for consumption in an area adjacent to your business where seating is made available for customers (whether or not you provide the seating) or which your customers habitually use for consumption of food or drink served by your business.
Licensed shops selling alcohol (including breweries) and off licences may remain open.
The businesses* that must close completely include:
-
Cinemas
-
Theatres
-
Concert halls
-
Casinos
-
Sexual entertainment venues
-
Nightclubs, dance halls, discotheques and any other venue which -

-
provides music, whether live or recorded, for dancing.
(* A full list is contained in Part 2 of the Schedule to the regulations.)
We understand the difficulties you will face in being forced to close and work differently. This has been a particularly challenging time for the hospitality industry, and we cannot thank you enough for your efforts over the past few months. We hope that by working together we can overcome the difficult period, protect the Licensed trade and the valuable service it provides; and most importantly, save lives.
