It’s the fifth national Co-production Week, 6th – 10th July 2020.
Here’s some information about the week from the Social Care Institute for Excellence, with some practical examples.

SEND Co-production Charter
|
|
|
In March 2018, we came together with Manchester Parent Carer Forum (MPCF), Manchester Parent Champions and many others from health, education, social care and voluntary groups to co-produce the SEND Co-production Charter. This highlights our shared values and principles and is a commitment from us all to make sure co-production underpins everything we do.

Jordan Navarro from Manchester Parent Carer Forum (MPCF) has created this webpage to celebrate Co-production Week.
As part of this, Maureen Howell, Manchester City Council’s SEND Engagement and Young Carers Lead, has shared some insight into the co-production work between MPCF and the Local Offer and Short Break teams. As she says, ‘Never has working in co-production with our families been more important than right now….Through co-production, our partnership with parents and carers has gone from strength to strength. We have witnessed some amazing examples of what we can achieve when we all work together’.

Geraldine Hills, Manchester Parent Champion, shares some of her thoughts: ‘Put simply, co-production is about working together, sharing knowledge, and co-designing better ways to deliver services with service users, families, and our communities and professionals. It allows us to play to our strengths and gain insight and knowledge from each other. It puts service users at the heart of all decisions.
A great example is the recent partnership work between Manchester Parent Champions, MPCF and the Council. The Council approached us and asked us for ideas for summer holiday activities, given the restrictions brought about because of COVID-19. We gathered a mass of fantastic ideas around how we can use our parks and other community outdoor spaces. We met with the agencies involved and have worked up a very exciting programme for the summer.
We’ve also worked collaboratively with the Information Advice Service Manchester (IASM). At our request, IAS do a live Q&A on our Facebook page. This gives parent/carers and IAS a chance to chat informally and highlight any issues that IAS can feedback to the Council. Following the success of these sessions, we’re now in the process of inviting other agencies to come and chat with us on our Facebook page.
Since the crisis began, we’ve seen some fantastic examples of collaborative working from parent/carers and services and know this will continue long after the lockdown is lifted’.
