Embedding ‘No Wrong Doors for young carers’ - working together to support young carers and their families: Leeds City Council

We know that young carers and young adult carers, in particular, aren’t always identified and supported early enough, and this can impact on their life chances.

Last week to coincide with Carer's Rights Day (21 November 2024), we launched launched a new briefing in which Leeds City Council, Family Action and Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust shared how they’ve used the ‘No Wrong Doors for Young Carers' memorandum of understanding to help embed a joined-up approach at city level and make a difference to support for young carers, young adult carers and their families.

Read the briefing and watch LGA Chair Cllr Louise Gittins talk about its importance.

New workforce planning hub

Traditionally, workforce planning in adult social care focused on the people that are employed directly by councils. In fact these people make up less than 10 per cent of the total adult social care workforce in a place, so the impact of these plans was therefore limited.

Our new workforce planning hub aims to support those seeking to develop impactful workforce plans by adopting a place-based approach in which councils work with staff, whether they are employed by councils, providers or partners, and people receiving care and support.

The hub provides information at national, regional and local levels, and will share practical resources and showcase good practice as it emerges.

5 December 2024, 10.00am - 11.30am | Virtual

We are hosting a series of webinars for directors of adult social services, associate directors and practitioners, aiming to provide an introduction to CLD and facilitate a better understanding of the implications on the statutory data collections and indicators.

You will hear some examples of how CLD data has already been used in councils to benefit their community. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions, address any concerns you have and think about what insights you might want to get from CLD.

Understanding the management and monitoring of waiting lists in adult social care

Many people across England are waiting for assessment and support for longer than they should, with the resultant risks and impact to their wellbeing.

Different approaches to measuring care waiting lists and waiting times have made comparison or national overview and understanding difficult to achieve.

Earlier this year, we initiated a project focused on co-ordinating stakeholder engagement to inform a shared understanding of adult social care waiting times and waiting lists. We've published the findings and next steps from our project.
