Dear colleague,

Welcome to this month's events bulletin where the focus is on two of our upcoming events, the first is our Public affairs for the public sector: workshop with LGA Associates Darren Caveney and Georgia Turner which is an in-person event on Monday 7 October 2024. Public affairs is a growing and increasingly important skills set for local government communicators. Following the General Election and the formation of a new government, the need to influence national policy and mobilise influential stakeholders has never been greater. This in-person workshop will explore what your team and organisation can do to improve, increase or formalise its public affairs approach during a period of political change.

The second is our Delivering self and custom-build homes: the council perspective virtual event on Wednesday 30 October 2024. More than nine years since the Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015 become a pivotal part of housing legislation, the Right to Build Taskforce takes a look at the experiences of two Task Force experts who work within the local authority sector. This virtual event will provide an overview of self and custom-build housing and the work of the Right to Build Task Force, as well as in-depth insights and experiences from officers at South Gloucestershire and Fareham Borough Councils. It will also offer a councillor's perspective on how member support and involvement has been an important part of South Gloucestershire’s journey in bringing forward self and custom-build homes.

Please find below details of our other forthcoming events.
