Local government pay 2024
Following the Chancellor’s announcement of funded pay awards to other parts of the public sector, the local government unions asked the National Employers to return to negotiating. In response, the National Employers reaffirmed the offer they made on 16 May as full and final, as it is at the limit of most councils' affordability.
Teachers' pay 2024
The LGA has invited LAs to input into the national employers (NEOST) response to the Government’s decision to fully implement the STRB recommendations, i.e. the proposed 5.5 per cent pay award, fully funded at a national level. Read the LGA pay reference circular

New Workforce Strategy launched by Skills for Care
Skills for Care, the workforce development body for adult social care in England, led the development of the new strategy, in collaboration with care sector partners, including LGA. The strategy highlights the importance of those working in care, and the opportunities and challenges the sector faces in the years ahead.

Apply for LG Challenge 2025, the LGA’s unique officer leadership programme to develop the future generation of local government leaders. It takes place over six-months, where a cohort of ten officers tackle five real-life challenges in councils across the country. Impact: The Local Government Graduate Programme
Councils can now sign up to this programme in order to participate in Cohort 27 recruitment. Formerly known as the NGDP, the graduate scheme helps build crucial capacity within organisations whilst providing a platform for motivated trainees to kickstart their careers as future leaders of local government.

The 'Care, Inspire, Thrive' Academy will upskill and train Children’s Services staff and other parts of the workforce as part of the council’s commitment to provide the best service possible for children and families in Liverpool. They will have the tools, knowledge, progression pathways and ongoing support to create a community of learning.
