We are pleased to hold a series of roadshow events to help our local government audience understand and respond to the NPPF consultation. We are holding a combination of in-person events in early September and some virtual workshops into four policy areas. We will also be holding a session designed for councillors.
More details about the consultation events
The events will be recorded if you are unable to make it.
You have until 11.45pm on Tuesday 24 September to make your comments on the revised NPPF consultation. To help you, here are some handy links to the key documents:
For completeness, we've included a link to the letter the Housing Minister has sent to PINs asking for a change of approach to Local Plan Examinations - to use pragmatism only when a plan is capable of being found sound.
Across September and October, Solar Energy UK in collaboration with the Planning Advisory Service are hosting a series of six workshops for local planners interested in, or responsible for determining, ground mounted solar farm applications. Each session covers a key issue or topic and together provide a fuller understanding of how authorities can approach this fast-developing sector.

The Right to Build Task Force are holding two study visits in September – one in the South (Bristol and Gloucestershire area) and one in the North (Leeds and York area). These guided tours of completed schemes are an opportunity to understand how custom and self-build housing can be delivered, what can be achieved and the kinds of policy levers and framework that support progression.
Tickets are discounted for anyone working in local or central government and its agencies. Find out more and book your place:
Are you in a management role within a planning team in a council? Would you find it helpful to be supported by someone who has had all these experiences already? PAS are setting up a mentoring programme where we match directors and heads of planning with a planning manager. This is a pilot year in which we hope to be able to demonstrate the value of mentoring and coaching in helping to build capacity and capability in the sector. Please contact pas@local.gov.uk if you would like to be considered for mentoring.
As part of the series of online MHCLG and pathfinder authority Design Code workshops, we are hosting another session on using design codes in decision making for Development Management officers. It will be an opportunity to hear from pathfinder local authorities about how DM officers are using their codes to inform pre-application discussions and in the determination of planning applications, as well as the role of compliance tools.
Places are limited and expected to fill up fast. Book your place at a design code workshop
You can also watch recordings from the previous sessions, which focused on the role of DM officers in the production of design codes as well as decision making.
