Preventing domestic abuse and supporting child victims

Foundations What Works Centre has launched a five-year plan to become the first country in the world to identify proven approaches to preventing domestic abuse and supporting child victims. The plan will include rigorous impact evaluation along with engagement with victims and survivors to identify what works to improve outcomes for children.

Placements for children in care resource

Where a child is in the care of the council, it is vital they feel safe and can thrive where they live. To support councils and councillors with this we've published a guide exploring the key legislation, policies and good practice for providing quality placements for children in care.

LGA youth services survey

We are committed to understanding the situation regarding the provision of youth services in local areas, and have launched a survey looking to understand the council experience of delivering or overseeing youth services. All single tier and county councils have been sent their own unique link to the survey. If your council has not received its unique link, please contact roopal.shah@local.gov.uk to receive the link. The survey response deadline is Tuesday 11 June.

Association of Education Advisers: The Role of the Education Adviser

The first book in the Association of Education Advisers (AoEA) 'The Education Adviser' series is now available. "The Role of the Education Adviser" is an essential reading if you advise, support, or lead a school or college, providing the most up-to-date thinking and examples of good practice from across the UK and internationally.

Part of the AoEA accreditation and development programme, this book is divided into two parts. Part one explores the theory behind advisory work, and part two looks at practical case studies from all over the UK. It's packed with thought provoking content and illuminating examples of great practice in education.

Updated: youth services must know guide

We have updated our must know for youth services guide. This follows the refresh to the statutory guidance last September. The guide outlines the statutory duty for councils, where to go for further support and outlines some key questions to be asking of service leads.

Youth Endowment Fund report on education, children, and violence

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) has published a new guidance report: Education, Children, and Violence. The guidance combines insights from a YEF toolkit, existing studies and new research, offering a practical 'what works' guide for education leaders dedicated to reducing children’s involvement in violence.
