C24 Wrap-Up Event
The NGDP team have been organising your wrap-up event which is due to take place on Wednesday 26th June at The Slate, Warwick. This event is a chance to celebrate your time on the programme and reflect on all you have achieved! Please see attached agenda for the event.
If you are planning to attend, please complete this form by Friday 24th May to secure your place. If you do not complete the form, we will assume you are not attending, and accommodation will not be booked for you. Please note that accommodation will be provided for all NMTs as standard on the evening of 26th June and check-out will be at 10am on 27th June.
Marketing updates
As you will all be aware by now, the launch of the NGDP re-brand is getting closer. We are set to officially announce the new name, logo and branding on Tuesday 25th June via email, social media, and our website. Please keep this date in mind and be ready to engage with our promotional content, as well as sharing your own experiences of the programme. As our best advocates we need your help!
We would like to emphasise that the content and structure of the programme will not be changing; the aim of this re-brand is simply to improve brand awareness and ensure our marketing activity is effectively promoting the strengths of the programme. Finance without numbers: Thursday 23 May
A reminder that the LGA is hosting a virtual introduction to local government finance session at 11am – 12.30pm. The webinar is for those new to local government or those looking for a refresh – providing attendees with an overview of local government finance without any numbers – focussing instead on roles and responsibilities, key terminology and processes. It will give you an understanding of both what you need to be aware of in your role and what you need to understand about your authority’s role.

Update from Solace Learning Team
ILM Level 7 Diploma in Leadership and Management Progression Route
We are happy to let you know that we are providing an opportunity for NGDP participants to progress to the ILM level 7 Diploma in Leadership and Management and progression from there to a Master’s degree.
We have attached a document which is an initial briefing with more information for those who are interested, and we will be running a webinar on 28th May from 1-2pm to talk this through and answer any questions you might have.
Updates from our networks
Southwest Network
On the 16th May, between 12:00–13:00, we’ll have Historic England come and speak to us, including giving as an overview of their work, what they do, as well as their role and context within the South West.

LGBT PRIDE Network
The NGDP LGBT+ Pride Network is thrilled to announce that it is now back up and running with a brand-new steering group.

BAME Network
Mentorship Programme 2024
As you know, NGDP BAME Network are working on the BAME Mentorship Programme 2024. We will be reaching out to Senior Leaders, and other senior council offers across Local Government (from BAME backgrounds or allies) to mentor graduates. This is a unique opportunity for personalised guidance and advice from seasoned council officers dedicated to support your professional development in Local Government.

NGDP Green Network
London x Green Network Air Pollution Event
Our next event will be on 21st May at 4pm on air pollution in the capital. We are very pleased to be joined by Tary Ferguson from the GLA, Adam Webber from Hammersmith and Fulham Council and Dr Sethi Roth from LSE. A Q&A will follow presentations from our speakers. Climate Conference
We are in the process of planning our very own climate conference, which is set to take place in September, venue TBC. Please let us know if you are interested in planning this event to enable networking opportunities between NGDP and alumni and seasoned professionals in the climate space.
Join the Steering Group
We are looking for new members to join the steering group! Help to plan events, write comms and support with the running of the network. It does not have to be a huge commitment, but there is lots of scope to lead on events you are interested in! We would love to have you along.
Gender Equality Network
GEN is excited to announce the launch of our new book club! One of our lovely members has been working with us to start a book club which aims to take place monthly and provides a platform to discuss literature in the gender equality space. Email gen.ngdp@gmail.com to receive the invite to our kick off event on Thursday 16th May 12:30-13:30.
Our fortnightly coffee mornings take place every other Friday and vary between a general chit-chat and themed discussions. Our next one on 17th May is to honour International Day against Transphobia, Homophobia and Biphobia.
Northern Network
We are also looking to recruit people on to the Northern Network Steering group as some of our members will be finishing the graduate scheme soon. If you would like to have a say in the direction of the Northern Network then please get in touch via email to express your interest: ngdp.northern.network@gmail.com.

Socio-Economic Inequalities Network
We are happy to announce that the Cost-of-Living Network has now changed its name to the Socio-Economic Inequalities Network! Our network remains committed to discussing the cost-of-living crisis, however, we also want to broaden our scope to consider socio-economic inequalities more widely. We aim to offer a space for graduates to be able to connect with one another to discuss the socio-economic inequalities within their communities, and how councils are and can working to reduce them. We hope graduates are able to use the learning they gain from our network to make a difference in their councils.
Our next event will be held on 20th May between 12-1pm, in partnership with the Disability and Inclusion Network, where we will be discussing the relationship between disabilities, mental health and socio-economic inequalities. If you would like to be invited to this event, please contact us!
We are currently planning our June event, which will be on the 18th June between 12-1pm, where we will be discussing homelessness – watch out for further information on this event.

Disability and Inclusion Network
Hello from the Disability and Inclusion Network!
Thanks to everyone who attended our April network meeting themed around Autism Awareness. We had a great discussion on how we can embed more inclusive practices in our roles as local government officers. If you did miss this network meeting, you can view the recording here.
We have another exciting collaborative event planned with the newly renamed Socio-Economic Inequalities Network. We will be co-hosting a discussion-based event looking at the intersections between mental health, disabilities, and the cost-of-living crisis. This will be a great opportunity to discuss the role of local government in supporting residents with mental health conditions. The event will be held on Monday 20th May from 12pm-1pm on teams. Policy Network
Policy Network Conference: Wednesday 12 June 2024, Westminster.
The NGDP Policy Network will be hosting its second annual conference at the LGA’s Westminster Suite, London on Wednesday 12 June 2024.
All NGDP graduates are welcome to attend! We will be hearing from Local Government’s most senior officers as well as academics, civil servants, journalists and many more. Our keynote speaker will be Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE, a Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords, the current President of the Local Government Association (LGA), and a world record breaking 11 gold medallist Paralympian athlete.
We will be hosting panels on the biggest issues in local government:
- The Current State of Local Government
- The future of AI and Data in Local Government
- On Devolution: Decentralisation and Local Government.
