Pay negotiations:  Local Government Services (Green Book)

UNISON’s strike ballots closed on 4 July. The ballot was sent to more than 4,000 employers – many of whom will be Employer Link subscribers. It reached the 50 per cent turn-out threshold (needed in England and Wales for lawful strike action) mostly in smaller organisations and individual schools. UNISON will await the outcome of other strike ballots, before confirming its next steps.

Unite released a statement at the end of July setting out where they are with their ballots (some of which closed on 28 July, others are still set to close.

Meanwhile GMB confirmed that they will be balloting their members on a disaggregated basis. The strike ballots will open on 12 September and close on 24 October (eight months after the National Employers’ unanimous, full and final pay offers were made on 23 Feb).

Teachers' pay

The Government's response to the STRB’s 33rd Report was published on 12 July, which includes the headline 6.5 per cent uplift for the majority of teachers and leaders. Visit our updated website with all the details including the amounts of funding that the Department for Education (DfE) estimate will cover the award in full for the average school.

Pay negotiations: Soulbury

The National Employers remain in dispute with the Soulbury Staff Associations over pay for 2022. The Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP) will conduct a strike ballot from July to September. If members vote in favour, strikes could start in councils in September. Please see our guidance on managing industrial action, and associated FAQs.

Pay negotiations:  Brigade managers’ pay and numbers survey

The survey was sent to Chairs and clerks of all UK fire and rescue authorities (with 100 per cent response rate). The report provides a picture of pay (covering basic salary and gross total pay), and salary schemes in use for brigade managers within the scope of the NJC at both 31 March 2021 and 31 March 2022.
