We are delighted to announce that we will be hearing from two councils who will be sharing their experience of hosting management and administration T Levels.
In-person event: T Level national conference
Thursday 12 October, London
This event is free to LGA members.
The T Level national conference is being held in partnership with the Gatsby Foundation. The event will showcase those councils which have hosted a T Level learner and will reflect on the learning from their experience so far. For councils which are still planning or considering taking on a T Level learner from the Autumn, this event will offer the chance to look at good practice / case studies, overcoming barriers and celebrating achievements to date.
We will have speakers from the Department for Education, the Gatsby Foundation, Association of Colleges and the Local Government Association. Presentations will cover T Level learners’ experiences across a range of industries, how industry placements have improved young people’s employment prospects and how providers are working in partnership with employers. We will also hear from two T Level learners on their experiences whilst undertaking their industry placement.
Who should attend: Work experience officers, employment officers, business managers, adult social care, children’s social care, digital managers, HR officers, economic policy officers, apprenticeship leads.
T Levels and workforce development planning
T Level courses have been designed with employers to deliver the skills your organisation needs.
When planning your workforce development for the years ahead, hosting T Levels can have a direct influence on your organisation’s skills gap and will improve the age diversity of your workforce.
There are currently 16 T Level subjects that you can offer placements for, with further subjects to be rolled out up to 2025.
Has your council seen the T Level difference?
Many councils are seeing the benefits of hosting T Level Industry Placements. We want to hear from councils, T Level students and education providers to hear examples of success stories.
If your council has hosted industry placements, or if you’re planning to host a placement, then we want to hear from you. Your case study will be showcased on the LGA website, on LinkedIn and Twitter.

T Levels and industry placements employer survey
DfE is reaching out to you with an important request to complete a 5-minute employer survey on T Levels and industry placements.
This will provide the department with data from employers’ perspective and allow us to engage with businesses more effectively to increase awareness of T Levels and the number of industry placements offered to students across the country.
Please take 5 minutes to complete the survey and forward the request to your own networks.
Discover your future workforce with T Levels
T Levels give you the opportunity to attract and develop new talent.
Hosting a T Level student on industry placement will not only bring a fresh perspective to your business but could also help you to build your workforce of the future.
With 19 T Level courses available in 11 skill areas by September, including digital, engineering, construction and health, find out more about hosting a T level student at your business.
Employer support fund for T Level industry placements
Did you know that as an employer, you can access an employer support fund to help host students on T Level industry placements? The placement must start between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024.
Schools, local authorities and NHS trusts are eligible to claim for legitimate costs.
You can use the employer support fund to fund legitimate costs you incur when hosting a T Level industry placement. This could include:
-
administrative costs – setting up processes, procedures and systems for placements and providing a physical workspace for the student
-
training costs – providing staff with the practical skills to support students on placements, e.g. mentoring. Training may be delivered in various ways including workshops, internal guides or online courses
-
tangible costs – operating the placement such as PPE or other equipment, insurance, security passes, mandatory vaccinations, mandatory training, software licensing, materials and supplies, supervising the student on placement, and transport for the student
You can host as many students as you’d like to offer placements to. However, you cannot claim for legitimate costs that exceed £25,000 in total.
Accelerated apprenticeships
Did you know that learners could complete an apprenticeship more quickly if they have existing skills qualifications such as a T Level?
Accelerated apprenticeships take prior knowledge into account. Training does not need to be repeated, reducing the length of time it takes to finish an apprenticeship – great news all round
Apprentice Support Centre
The new Apprentice Support Centre has been developed as a single source of information and support specifically for new and existing apprentices of all ages.
The resources published on the site are based on topics highlighted in research and insight from apprentices, as issues which can contribute to them withdrawing and not achieving their apprenticeship
The first five resources published cover: Roles and Responsibilities, Support for Apprentices with a Learning Difficulty or Disability, Off-the-job Training, End Point Assessment (EPA) and Connect and Network with Other Apprentices. Other resources will be added on an on-going basis as new topics are identified where apprentices would like more information and support.
All employers are being encouraged to make their apprentices aware of the new resources now available to support them, and to share the link and signpost them to the site throughout their apprenticeship programme.
With the information being focused on key information and support which apprentices need to complete their apprenticeship, it can also help answer some of the questions your apprentices maybe asking you. You could also include it in your apprenticeship induction or any support information you use with your apprentices.
