The Forgotten Workforce: recruiting and retaining personal assistants
TLAP and the LGA have published the report of a co-produced survey about personal assistant recruitment and retention during the pandemic period. The report includes suggestions for action by local and central government and is essential reading for all involved in enabling people to exercise choice and control over their care and support through a direct payment.
Enabling overseas recruitment
With planning for winter underway, councils and providers continue to look to increase capacity in the workforce through overseas recruitment. Last month we published a Bitesize Guide to Overseas Recruitment to aid understanding of the process and share lessons to date from those who are already recruiting from overseas. Following publication, we’re keen to explore what else would help to enable providers to take this opportunity, including, for example, administrative support, advice and guidance, or sharing costs. If you have any comments or would be happy to discuss this please email amanda.whittaker-brown@local.gov.uk.

Census 2021: LG Inform report on results for your council area
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published the first results from the Census 2021, which we quickly added into LG Inform. We have now created a Census 2021 report for each area to provide you with quick and easy access to the 2021 results, how this has changed since 2011 and how you compare to your region and the country as a whole. If you haven’t had a chance to look at the data for your area, our report gives you a quick and easy snapshot.
