National census of local authority councillors 2022
The LGA has carried out the ninth census of local authority councillors in England. This census provides the most comprehensive, timely overview of local government representation and, with previous years’ data, how that has changed over time. The 2022 Census was conducted in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on local communities, and recent prominent issues of personal safety.
New-look LG Inform
LG Inform now has a refreshed look. Following detailed user research over the last few months, a series of changes have been made to present data in a new way and highlight system functionality that was previously hidden. The new front page has a greater focus on the dashboard and the fact users can sign in to personalise it. The themed reports page now provides more information about each report and offers a new ability to filter by theme.
Finally, the LG Inform team have emphasised features in LG Inform that users must sign in to use, such as the report builder. We hope these changes enable users to keep making the most out of all the information and features available through LG Inform. For more information contact: lginform@local.gov.uk.
Data on the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme now available in LG Inform
New to LG Inform is a report presenting latest data on the cumulative number of visas issued and arrivals for the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme. The data is presented as a proportion of the Census 2021 counts of country of birth by local authority for Ukraine and neighbouring or relevant countries.
To view the new report, click here and use the modifiers to tune the report in to a specific area. Additionally, this search shows the data items available in the system associated with topic. Click on the right to open individual items.
To help local planning, the report will be updated weekly using data collated by the Home Office and the Department for Levelling Up, Communities and Local Government (DLUHC). To help contextualise the numbers and gauge local impacts, the LGA has rated the figures and calculated percentages using the most recently available authority population data.
Also available is the Residents born in Ukraine, Russia and Other Eastern European Countries report, using 2021 Census data.
The LGA continues to work with councils and government on further improvements to the data flow between councils and government, alongside clarity on the rematching process, safeguarding and funding.
