Calls for action

Behavioural Insights programme 2022/23

As part of our Behavioural Insights programme 2022/23, we are seeking applications from groups of local authorities who can work together in an existing partnership to run a behavioural insights trial in their local area to address a behavioural challenge and reduce demand on public services. If you are interested in participating in this year’s programme as part of a consortium of local authorities in your area, please complete our short application form by Monday 23 May at 12pm or email behaviouralinsights@local.gov.uk if you have any queries.

How ‘data mature’ is your council? – trial our data maturity self-assessment tool in 2022

How well does your council use data for decision-making? We’re partnering with councils to trial the use of a data maturity self-assessment tool during 2022, and your council can take part too. We’re inviting councils at any stage of maturity from ‘data unaware’ to ‘data masters’ to take part in the trial. The self-assessment tool is easy-to-use and takes no more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. By participating, you will be able to:

  • track where your council is in its data journey
  • plan your next steps towards data maturity
  • compare your council against other councils and across different service areas
  • encourage conversation on the data needs of your council
  • work collectively to raise standards and to improve cultural and work practices.

Find out more about our data maturity trial or email transparency@local.gov.uk to take part.

Four essential steps for delivering digital inclusion projects and initiatives

We have worked with public sector technology specialists Socitm Advisory and the wider local government sector to compile a 'bundle' of resources to support councils in tackling the digital divide, including our Digital Learner Checklist – a dynamic spreadsheet which councils can use to assess residents' digital progress and to create baseline assessments for digital inclusion projects involving both workforce and communities. The resources also feature guidance on using 'personas', which can be used to design services based on user needs and assess the impact of digital inclusion initiatives.
