The Government has published the School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB) remit, covering a two-year pay award period on Friday 17 December 2021. The letter from the Secretary of State to the Chair of the STRB can be read on the Government's website.
The STRB has been asked to make recommendations on a two-year pay award period, and as a statutory consultee, National Employers' Organisation for School Teachers' (NEOST) received a letter saying the STRB would welcome NEOST's views and evidence on the issues outlined.
We appreciate that schools are now closed, and that many of you will be taking a very well earned break, but the deadlines for responding to this consultation are very tight, hence sending this message out so close to Christmas. Views from Employer Link subscribers are vital.
The two-year pay award is being considered within the context of the Government's aim to deliver its manifesto commitment to introduce a starting salary of £30,000 outside of the London areas by the end of this Parliament, alongside the recently announced update to the education sector settlement in the Comprehensive Spending Review.
The STRB have also been asked to look at a “significant, but sustainable” increase in pay for experienced teachers with the aim of “moving towards a relatively flatter pay progression structure”.
Affordability and sustainability in the context of delivering such a significant increase to early career teacher salary is going to have an impact on financial and workforce planning, which is why your views, on what the pay structure should look like in September 2022 and September 2023, to deliver organisational goals, are so important.
The survey is now open for responses until close of play Friday 21 January. You can respond via the following link:
