Dear colleague,

Calls for action

National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP)

The NGDP programme has recruited its biggest and most diverse cohort to date in 2020, with 149 graduate places around the country, of whom 28 per cent identified as BAME and of whom more than ever before felt able to disclose a disability. We have now received a record of over 7,400 applications for 2021 placements. If your council is interested in signing up and hosting graduates, please visit our National Graduate Development Programme page or email helen.reeves@local.gov.uk for an informal conversation.

Climate action plans

We are collecting council climate change action plans to help local authorities share and learn from one another. Please do send across your website link to climate@local.gov.uk. We have started mapping these action plans on our Climate Change web pages under 'LGA resources' and then 'Climate Emergency Map'

LGA's membership magazine 'first' is received as a hard copy by over 18,000 councillors and 400 chief executives. In a response to demand, we have made it easier to read online by creating a dedicated website to read all of its articles, interviews and opinion pieces.

first e-bulletins

In response to the coronavirus crisis, the LGA is increasing the frequency of its first e-bulletins to help elected members keep up-to-date, with a round-up of the latest COVID-19 news, guidance and council good practice.

All councillors who receive first magazine should also be receiving the e-bulletin, unless they have previously opted out of it. Councillors can sign up for the bulletin, using their council.gov.uk addresses.

Yours faithfully,
