Dear colleague,
Over the past month, we have held webinars for Conservative members covering Devolution, the Green Recovery and the Future of Care Homes.
These webinars focused on some of the most important issues for Conservative councillors, with those attending having the opportunity to question a Government Minister and leading experts in the areas of environmental policy and social care.
On 21st July, I welcomed Local Government minister, Simon Clarke MP, to our English Devolution webinar. Simon expressed his gratitude for your work during this pandemic and went on to speak about the Devolution White Paper which will be published in Autumn.
On 27th July, the Green Recovery Post Covid-19 webinar was chaired by Cllr David Renard with Megan Trethewey from the Conservative Environment Network. Megan highlighted some of the positive impacts of the lockdown on the environment, including cleaner air and a great appreciation of nature and open spaces. She also emphasised how councils can respond positively to both the political and practical challenges posed by climate change
On 28th July, I was pleased to welcome David Pearson CBE, Chair of the Social Care Sector COVID-19 Support Task Force, as the speaker at our webinar on the Future of Care Homes. David covered a great deal of ground, ranging from the impact of Covid-19 to the long-term future of social care, and answered a variety of questions from the attendees.
We are planning to hold further sessions in September, including on the ‘Future of High Streets’ and ‘Housing’. More information will be provided in due course but if there are any issues or areas that you would like us to cover please do email us.
After such a stressful period for all of us, I hope you will have the opportunity to enjoy some time off in August.
Please note we will not be sending out any weekly bulletins next month, but normal service will resume with a weekly email from the beginning of September.
As always, if there is anything I or our regional lead peers can do to assist you, please do contact us. You can find more details about our regional peers at the bottom of this newsletter.
Best wishes,
Cllr Izzi Seccombe OBE Leader, LGA Conservative Group |
