Updates on the role councils are playing in negotiating Britain's exit from the EU

TwitterLinkedInFacebookYoutube

Dear colleagues,

As Chairman of the LGA’s Brexit Taskforce, I have heard contradictory opinions on the immigration arrangements that will apply to EU citizens and their family members who are moving to the UK after 31 October 2019 in the event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

In this light, I thought I’d share the latest Government policy paper which is available through the gov.uk website. It sets out the process which involves EU citizens applying for temporary leave to remain only after they arrive in the UK, with no special arrangements needed in advance.

EU Settlement Scheme

Councils have told us that resources are needed to help promote the EU Settlement Scheme to your local communities. To assist your efforts in promoting the Scheme, please download two new social assets the Home Office has created (link valid for seven days):

  1. A short animation on the ways an applicant can prove their identity
  2. A video with 5 top tips on using the EU Exit ID Document Check app

These videos can be used on your social media channels, website pages and within any mail outs you may be doing to inform your networks and other stakeholders about the Scheme.

If you would like share or retweet this content from the Home Office’s accounts, please use the following links:

If you would like to post these videos directly on your channels, the Home Office have suggested some posts below:

I hope these resources are helpful in promoting the scheme in your communities.
