CTS Board meeting on 19 March 2018 CTS Board members heard from Ian Brooks (Chair of the Chief Culture and Leisure Officers Association, cCLOA) about the
challenges and opportunities facing local government in the provision of
culture and physical activity services. CTS Board members also highlighted key
responses for the LGA’s submission to the HLF. Read more

Digital,
Culture, Media and Sport Committee inquiry The LGA’s
response highlighted the vital role of councils in delivering sport and
cultural activities to residents and shared some of the great case studies in
this area. One key issue we raised was that the best approach for delivering
culture and sport is one that needs to be made locally.
Arts
Council England consults on new strategy Arts Council England is consulting on its new
strategy for 2020-2030. The deadline for responses
is 11
April 2018. The LGA response will highlight that
councils remain the biggest public sector investors of cultural services and
are committed to making culture a key feature of what makes a place attractive.
Challenges facing non-met and rural areas - call for evidence The LGA’s People and Places Board
has launched a Post-Brexit England Commission to highlight the challenges and
opportunities facing non-metropolitan and rural areas. More information is provided on the
Commission’s webpage. The deadline for
submission is 13 April 2018.
Action
on parks – 24 May 2018, London Delegates
will have a chance to meet the National Parks Action Group members, and hear
about best practice and have a chance to feed in their own experience and
insight to the Group’s work.
The Big Lunch – 3 June 2018 The Big
Lunch can offer free support, resources and examples of the transformative
effect this community engagement event is having.
LGA Annual Conference – 3-5 July 2018,
Birmingham The
conference provides sessions on how innovation and good practice can deliver
the best local public services for our communities.

Leadership Essentials Sport & Physical Activity event for councillors – 12
& 13 July 2018, Coventry This is a
must attend event for portfolio holders with responsibility for sport and
physical activity. Accommodation and food is provided as part of the event.

seeks local authorities to collaborate with Disability Rights UK wants to work with adult social care and
public health within local government to develop co-production methods and

England and cCLOA have undertaken a project to support local authority sport
and physical activity professionals in their understanding of the commissioning
process and help them engage more effectively with commissioners. Download a

Theatres at risk register Theatres Trust has
highlighted eight ways local authorities can better support their theatre
buildings to ensure their future as live performance spaces. Find out more here.
Culture hub The LGA's Culture Hub is comprised of good practice case studies exploring four main themes:
Value of culture, Different delivery models, Achieving efficiencies and

Playing Fields Policy and Guidance Sport England has published an
updated version of its policy and guidance on planning applications affecting
playing fields.
Sport England has also updated its
overall aim and objectives in working with the planning system.
Battle's over guide On 11 November 2018, the
UK will mark the day when 100 years ago the First World War ended. The Battle’s
over guide offers ways in which councils and communities can mark this event.
Engaging in Commissioning - a
practical resource pack for the culture and sport sector This
resource pack has been jointly produced by the LGA,
Sport England, ACE and the cCLOA.
