Are you a Belle Isle tenant with a passion for your community? Join us in BITMO’s GATE on Thursday 29 May at 4:30pm to explore an exciting opportunity to become a Tenant Board Member at BITMO!
This relaxed, informal session will give you the inside scoop on what the role involves and how we’ll support you every step of the way — no experience needed, just your voice and ideas.
The training runs from 4:45 to 5:30pm, and spots are limited, so don’t wait! Contact Karen Hoole today to register your interest.
Being a Board Member is a great way to build confidence, develop new skills, and help shape the future of Belle Isle. We’re especially eager to hear from younger tenants — if you’re aged 50 or under, or know someone who is, please spread the word.
Get involved. Be heard. Help lead. Because Belle Isle and BITMO needs you!
An independent company regularly surveys our tenants to find out how satisfied they are with our work.
82% of those asked were satisfied overall with repairs carried out and with the time taken to complete the work. This is a more than 10% improvement on the prior year and over 10% higher than the rest of South Leeds.
73% thought that BITMO provides a home that is well maintained. This compares to 69% for the rest of south Leeds. 79% thought that we provide a home that is safe (compared to 74% for the rest of South Leeds).
We also measure performance in other ways. These figures are from the year April 2024-March 2025.
BITMO successfully completed 93% of our planned Home Visits. These are necessary to ensure that tenants are happy and safe in their homes and that the tenancy is working well. The average for South Leeds was 81%.
We helped generate £450,833 to aid 167 households in financial hardship (£386k for 179 households in the previous year). We also bought 129 essential major household items for those in most need. Working with Belle Isle Community Kitchen we provided free meals at BITMO’s GATE three times a week.
BITMO spent £1,620,000 on roofs, kitchens, bathrooms, heating, adaptations, fencing and other items to help make sure that people’s homes and surroundings were at a decent standard.

Everyone - with or without children - is welcome to come for the hot meal at 4pm on Tuesday and the breakfast on Friday morning.
Printing and copying is available again at BITMO’s GATE. It’s a service provided by Leeds Libraries, not BITMO. You now need to pay for most copying or printing. You need to download an app called Print in City and pay at least £3 on to it. You can then use this credit to pay for your printing or copying from 10p for a black and white A4 to 40p for a coloured A3. GATE staff can help you set this up. Please bear with us as we are still getting used to it. We can offer a limited amount of printing and copying that BITMO will pay for if: • You live in a BITMO household, AND • Your printing is to help you or a member of your household to get a job, benefits or education.
Download the Print in City app to use the printer in BITMO’s GATE
It’s the repair café on Saturday 17 May from1-4pm. As well as the usual fixers, this month we have a bike fixer. Bring your bikes in to get fixed up for summer – but we can only fix bikes if there is an adult there. We can also sharpen your kitchen knives and scissors. All this plus free toasties, Councillor Rob Chesterfield’s advice surgery and a meeting to plan the Belle Isle Gala at 3pm!
As part of their Creative Communities project in Belle Isle over the last two years, Swarthmore created a tapestry with Belle Isle residents. This will be unveiled at BITMO’s GATE on Thursday 29 May from 5-6pm. There will be cake! You would be welcome to stay on for the Belle Isle TMO Board Meeting from 6pm.
After the unveiling, the tapestry will go on display in Leeds City Museum over the summer. It will then travel back to BITMO, where it will be permanently displayed.
Want to get some exercise in the outdoors? Interested in learning about working on gardens and woodland? Fruit Works and BITMO are running monthly volunteer sessions preparing the green space behind the post office on Belle Isle Parade to be a tree nursery and forest garden.
