Recently some of our Board members met with people working for third sector organisations in Leeds, to hear their thoughts about safeguarding adults in Leeds.
They discussed the types of abuse they are seeing, good practices in local organisations, barriers and challenges, and suggested priorities for the Board.
If you work for a third sector organisation, we would like to hear your views. They will help shape our work in the future.

We'll send a special bulletin soon, with all the details. Don't forget to book early, as previous events have been extremely popular.

Earlier this year over 120 people attended our self-neglect, working together in partnership conference, supporting our ambition for Leeds to be a city that always comes together to support and protect the safety and wellbeing of people who experience self-neglect.
Delegates heard from guest speakers and people from Leeds with lived experiences of self-neglect. We were delighted to receive great feedback about the conference, with people saying that the information will help them support adults in the city.
In Leeds we encourage people to have an Always Care approach to self-neglect, working together and with the person at risk to make a difference.
We have the Leeds Self-neglect Strategy, and Always Care Principles. We encourage you to read our resources that support front-line practice.
We're always pleased when people offer to help us raise awareness about abuse.
People Matters in Leeds creates opportunities for people with learning disabilities and other hidden disabilities to be more independent and enjoy life in the same ways as anybody else.
Their Members Council have made a short film to help people understand how financial abuse can happen and how to get help.
If you have a group that would like to make a short film, please let us know by using the Contact Us link at the end of this bulletin.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) recently invited people working across rough sleeping, social care and safeguarding to share their insights at two webinars. Topics included executive function & brain injury, homelessness fatality reviews, multi-agency risk panels, and self-neglect.
MHCLG have made recordings available online.
The Disclosure and Barring Service has published guidance leaflets that explore eligibility for DBS checks within different roles and sectors, including sport, NHS, charities and Adult Social Care.
When supporting people who have Down’s syndrome it's important to know that pain may not be communicated as pain, but as another feeling such as discomfort or worry.
The Down's Syndrome Association's new pain resource suggests ways to help them communicate and identify pain and offers strategies to deal with pain and where to seek medical advice.
Hourglass, a charity that aims to end the harm, abuse, and exploitation of older people in the UK, recently hosted a webinar about sexual abuse of older adults.
The recording features some excellent speakers talking about the extent of the problem, and how it's significantly under reported and researched.
