100% Digital Leeds at Leeds Digital Festival 2024

Leeds Digital Festival returns 16 to 27 September 2024 for a two-week celebration of digital culture in all its forms. This year, 100% Digital Leeds is pleased to be hosting three events as part of the programme, highlighting some of our current workstreams.

Be Online and Stay Safe - Media Literacy with Older People

17 September, 10.00am - 11.30am

This event is a chance for you to hear more about the success and findings of the Be Online and Stay Safe (BOSS) project. BOSS was a collaboration between Leeds Older People’s Forum, 100% Digital Leeds, and 5 delivery partners who support older people across Leeds. Empowerment Through Technology - Donate your digital equipment for good

23 September, 1.00pm - 1.30pm

Solidaritech repurpose your organisation’s unwanted laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones, passing them on to asylum seekers and refugees without digital equipment. In the last 12 months Solidaritech have refurbished and gifted over 1,300 devices to digitally excluded people across Yorkshire and Humber. Digital Volunteering Matchmaking Event 2024

26 September, 10.00am - 11.30am

This ‘speed networking’ style event aims to link tech companies seeking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) volunteer opportunities with voluntary, community, or social enterprise (VCSE) organisations looking for volunteers to support basic digital skills for Leeds residents. We aim for attendees to leave the event having made meaningful matches, leading to ongoing, mutually beneficial partnerships. Older People’s Digital Inclusion Network Meeting – July 2024

The Older People’s Digital Inclusion Network is a partnership between 100% Digital Leeds and Leeds Older People’s Forum. The Network brings together organisations across the city who support older people with digital inclusion, building new partnerships and sharing learning and resources. In July the first Older People’s Digital Inclusion Network meeting of 2024 was held at Virgin Money in Leeds City Centre, with the aim of identifying shared priorities for the rest of the year and into 2025. Trust Leeds

Trust Leeds is a Leeds-based charity which follows the Self-Reliant Group (SRG) model. Community SRGs build confidence, skills, and emotional wellbeing, and allow people to develop their own small savings to build financial independence. Careers Digital Drop-in Clinic

18 September 12:00 noon - 2:00pm, KPMG Office, Leeds LS1 4DA

WILD presents the 'Careers Digital Drop-in Clinic' – a lunchtime social, designed to celebrate the WILD community. WILD are also hosting a drop-in clinic set in a safe and informal environment ideal for individuals at all stages of their careers. Enjoy a 10-minute one-to-one session with our facilitators, seek advice, and build confidence. Bring your career dreams and join to connect with like-minded individuals and celebrate your achievements with those from the WILD community. Effective Bid Writing

Training and networking opportunities from Good Things Foundation

Good Things Foundation have a series of training and networking opportunities to support organisations in their digital inclusion offer. To attend, organisations need to be a member of their National Digital Inclusion Network. The network is free to join.

National Databank question and answer session

3 September, 10:00am - 11:00am, online

This session is for organisations who are not yet part of the National Databank. Find out how to join the National Databank, along with the other services available to you as part of the National Digital Inclusion Network. How to run a Get Online Week event

4 September 3:00pm - 4:00pm and 11 September 11:00am - 12:00 noon, online

Get Online Week 2024 will be kicking off on 14 October, and Good Things Foundation want as many hubs as possible to host events during the week to support thousands of people around the UK to get online.

This event will cover:

  • What is Get Online Week and why is it still needed in 2024.
  • How digital inclusion hubs can get involved with the campaign.
  • Ideas for your Get Online Week event.
  • Tips from experienced digital inclusion hubs.
  • How you can support the event online.
  • Raising your hub's profile through the Get Online Week campaign.

Supporting basic digital skills with Learn My Way

9 September, 11:00am - 12:00 noon, online

Learn My Way is a free learning platform from Good Things Foundation that is designed to help people learn basic digital skills. The topics are all aligned with the Essential Digital Skills Framework and range from turning on your device and using a mouse or touch screen through to working with Office programs.

This is a great session for anyone that is new to supporting people to learn digital skills, whether you're a digital champion, tutor or hub manager. Network meet-up - libraries digital inclusion

26 September, 10:00am - 11am, online

An open forum for libraries from around the UK to share successes, spark ideas and seek support for their digital inclusion work. Introduction to Avoiding Scams and Fake News for Digital Champions

1 October, 4:00pm - 5:00pm, online

Aimed at volunteer digital champions, this online safety series aims to help you to feel more confident in different aspects of staying safe online. At this session Good Things Foundation will talk about how to spot and avoid scams, and recognise fake news online. This session is delivered by tech experts, so come with any questions you have about online security. Book onto Introduction to Avoiding Scams and Fake News for Digital Champions via Eventbrite.


Funding 

100% Digital Leeds are keen to support the development of any funding bids with a digital inclusion element, or to help you embed digital inclusion throughout your project. If you would like support contact us.

Some funding links will take you through to the Funding Leeds website and you will need to register to access the information. Once you have registered for free you will have access to a national database of funding sources and get regular email updates on your funding area of interests.

Green Hall Foundation

Grants for UK registered charities to fund special projects or the purchase of equipment that will benefit their charitable purposes, with a focus on making a lasting difference.

Amount: Grants range from £1,000 to £10,000. The September round is open to charities with an annual income of £250,000 or less.

Deadline: The next round opens on 2 September 9:00am.

Health Equity Fund

Grants are available for community groups, charities, and other not-for-profit organisations to deliver place-based projects addressing the social determinants of health. The Institute of Health Equity and the charitable arm of Legal and General are working together on this national fund. 

Amount: £75,000.

Deadline: 3 September.

Edge Fund

The Fund supports grassroots groups working towards social and ecological change on issues such as anti-austerity, feminism, environmentalism and anti-racism. Initiatives that are community led are supported.

Amount: £1,000.

Deadline: 13 September.

Better Community Business Network Grant Initiative

A small number of grants are available each year to small not-for-profit groups with projects that address a community issue or support a local community initiative; and provide benefits to the local community.

Amount: £3,000, 12 grants are awarded annually. 

Deadline: 15 September.

Clarion Futures Digital Grants

Grants are available for charities and community organisations to support Clarion residents of all ages to get online and build the skills, motivation and confidence needed to use the internet safely in everyday life.

Amount: Grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 are available.

Deadline: 2 October 12:00 noon.

Gillian Stevenson Charitable Trust CIO

Grants are available for small charities working to improve the lives of disadvantaged children, young people, families and adults.

Amount: £5,000.

Deadline: 6 October.

Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust – Free from Fear Programme

Grants are available to registered charities, Community Interest Companies and Armed Forces bases/units for projects that address domestic abuse through preventative measures or providing support routes for survivors in Armed Forces communities.

Amount: £150,000.

Deadline: 16 October.

WCIT – IT4Good Grant Programme

Grants are available for not-for-profit organisations across the UK to deliver IT projects and activities that support the themes of education, inclusion, IT for charities, and understanding of IT. 

Amount: £15,000.

Deadline: 31 October.

Arnold Clark Community Fund

Grants are available for charities and other not-for-profit organisations for projects, including those whose work directly supports those most affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

Amount: £2,500.

Deadline: 31 December. Applications are reviewed when they are received. Arnold Clark will contact successful applicants on a weekly basis.

National Lottery Community Fund - The UK Fund

Grants are available to not-for-profit groups for projects in the UK that help bring diverse communities together as well as projects that help children and young people use their voice to influence change.

Amount: Grants of £500,000 to £5 million are available. Funding is available for 2 to 10 years. It is expected that around 20 projects will be funded a year.

Deadline: Rolling.

National Lottery Community Fund - Reaching Communities

Large grants are available to voluntary and community organisations for projects that make positive changes in their communities.

Amount: Grants of £20,001, or more, are available for up to five years.

Path Yorkshire - Digital Skills Training

Starts in September, 29 Harrogate Road, LS7 3PD

Enhance your digital skills by signing up for Digital Skills Training sessions at Path Yorkshire. The sessions cover a range of topics, including cybersecurity, programming, app development, graphic design, and game development. Highrise Project workshops

All activities take place on the lower ground floor at Armley Community Hub, LS12 1QU.

Collective - starts 10 September, 10:00am - 1:00pm, the sessions will run weekly during term time.

COLLECTIVE is a space for people to be creative in a supportive environment, to work on a project or take part in a class. Highrise can supply basic art materials or you can bring your own. Materials, space, wifi and refreshments are provided free of charge.

Edek’s Doodle Chat - starts 17 September, 1:00pm - 5:00pm, the sessions will run weekly during term time.

A relaxed social group for all to doodle and chat. Materials, space, wifi and refreshments are provided free of charge

ProCreate Digital Drawing - 10.30am - 12.30pm on Tuesdays, from 19 September to 24 October.

Introduction to Procreate workshops covering the basics of digital art and creative uses of digital devices. To register for the Highrise ProCreate Digital Drawing workshops please fill in the online form.

Introduction of the NHS Volunteering Portal

NHS England has introduced a new website designed to help individuals discover and apply for health related volunteer opportunities within their communities. This centralised platform simplifies the process of learning about volunteering, contributing time, and experiencing the personal benefits that come from volunteering in healthcare. UK Visas and Immigration Assisted Digital Service

Do you need help using a computer or device to apply for a Visa, eVisa, or EU Settled Status? You may be eligible for free support if you are experiencing digital exclusion. To find out more about the UK Visas and Immigration Assisted Digital Service visit the We Are Group website

Money Helper - Talk Learn Do

Teaching children about money when they’re young helps them develop the skills they’ll need as adults. ‘Talk Learn Do’ is a free resource to support parents and carers talk to three to 11-year-olds about money. Visit the Money Helper website to find out more about Talk Learn Do.

Skill Her Up - Digital Skills for Women and Girls

Skill Her Up CIC is a social enterprise working out of Leeds, dedicated to empowering women and girls aged 13 and above by providing digital skills training and support. Through workshops, webinars, seminars, online courses and community engagement, Skill Her Up aims to promote digital inclusion leading to enhancing lives, careers, and businesses.

Get Online Week 2024 14 - 20 October

Get Online Week is now only two months away, so if you haven’t registered your event yet, now is the time. The first 350 hubs to register an event can get free merchandise and materials to promote their events. These promotional kits include: bookmarks, pens, calendars, posters, foam boards for photos, and more, you can also get £20 vouchers for refreshments. Offline and Overlooked by Age UK

Age UK is campaigning to guarantee fair access to public services for everyone, including those who are not online. With 2.3 million older people in the UK unable to use the internet, accessing essential services like banking and NHS appointments is increasingly difficult. Vodafone & Virgin Media O2 Agree to Network-Sharing for Connectivity

The agreement builds on the existing collaboration between Vodafone UK and Virgin Media O2, including the Shared Rural Network initiative, to deliver quality mobile coverage in hard-to-reach areas across the UK. The Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) 

The Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an online self-assessment tool to help adult social care providers in England to store and share information safely. The Completing the Data Security and Protection Toolkit online session on 3 September 3:00pm - 4:00pm, covers what you need to do to keep people’s information safe, and to protect your business from the risk of a data breach or a cyber attack. It covers both paper and digital records. Reasonable Adjustments Digital Flag roll out and training

The NHS is introducing the Reasonable Adjustments Digital Flag across all NHS and publicly funded care services. Organisations can access free training to help make this a standard part of care for all disabled people.
