What first comes to your mind when you think of summer? Maybe ice cream?

Did you know that the first ice cream cone was produced by Italian immigrant Italo Marchiony in New York City in 1896? He was granted a patent in December 1903 for an invention of a molding apparatus, which was used in the manufacture of ice cream, cups and the like, and allowed for cooking ten cones at a time.

In 1904, he acquired a factory in Grand Street, Hoboken, to manufacture cones as well as rectangular wafers that were either flat or moulded into shapes similar to bananas. At its peak, the factory reputedly could turn out 150,000 cones in 24 hours.
