Building Safety newsletter

Newsletter

This week you’ll have received a copy of our Autumn Building Safety newsletter. It contains important safety information for you and your home, so please take some time to read it. Thank you to the Tenant Voice Panel members who gave us feedback. We held a feedback session on 6 September and also had feedback via email and through a survey. As a result, we included information on how to report anti-social behaviour, and how to make your block a safer and more welcoming place to live.  If we’ve not been able to take your feedback on board for this edition, we’ll use it to inform articles in these regular e-bulletins and for our next newsletter. You can view the newsletter online.

If you would like to let us know what you think of the newsletter, positive comments, or constructive feedback, you can email housinginvolvement@leeds.gov.uk. If you’d like to get involved in giving feedback on other aspects of the service, you can join the Tenant Voice Panel.

Our commitments to communication, listening and responding to your feedback

Buildings are at their safest when we as a landlord, residents and others all play their part in maintaining the safety, security, and cleanliness of every block. Our ‘High-Rise Building Safety Resident Engagement Strategy’ explains how residents are kept informed about building safety.  It also describes the ways in which residents can get involved and influence building safety and the services we give.   Please take a read through our commitments and if you have any comments or feedback please let us know.

New information about your building’s safety

High-rise residents can now request safety inspection information for their high-rise building.  If you are tenant or leaseholder and wish to have access to building safety related information you can complete the online form.  Please note, this form should not be used to request or report any other housing issues.  You can visit our web page to find out more information about housing and day to day service requests.

If you have an urgent safety concern that needs immediate attention, please report by calling 0800 188 4000 or 0113 376 0410 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). However, if it’s non-urgent, you can now report a high-rise building safety concern on our website.

In addition to the above, in October we’ll also be launching a ‘High-Rise Building Safety Hub’, giving residents access to a website where you will be able to see certain building safety information instantly. We’ll share more information on this soon.

Reminder about fire safety checks to your flat entrance door

Earlier this year we updated you on the new requirements for inspecting your flat entrance fire door from both sides, inside and outside your home. Officers from our Fire Safety Team have been visiting blocks since January and have completed hundreds of checks so far. The visits are for your safety and take no more than 15 minutes. Thank you to everyone who has given us access so far.

Fire Safety Officer, Jon carrying out checks on residents’ doors. Thank you to our lovely residents David and Rosemary who reported that Jon was ‘very polite and informative’ and did an ‘excellent job’.

Please remember, if any fault or damage occurs to your door, you must report this on 0800 188 4000 and ask for an emergency repair.  If you live in a PFI area, call your repair contractor directly.

Preparing for colder weather

pipe

Freezing temperatures often lead to a spike in our emergency repairs service and longer times for us to respond. Please prepare well in case of any emergency, such as a leak, no power, or no heating:

  • Know where your water stop tap is so that you can isolate leaks quickly
  • Keep your mobile phone charged up in case your power is affected
  • Have some essentials to hand, to help stay comfortable in the event of an emergency, like a bucket (in case of any leak), blankets, a hot water bottle and torch.

Visit the Northern Powergrid website for important advice on what to do before, during and after a power cut.

Investing in homes

Residents of Queensview can now look forward to reduced energy bills this winter following the installation of a new air source heating system.  Many thanks to residents for their patience whilst we installed the new system.  This is good news for the environment and will help make heating homes more affordable, especially as we enter the winter months.

Residents have also benefitted from a new pergola and planters for their communal garden thanks to our contractor Cenergist.
