Get Online Week 2023
Get Online Week is an annual campaign run by leading digital inclusion charity Good Things Foundation. For one week in October, their network of community partners host hundreds of free digital skills events to help people to get online safely, confidently and affordably.
Now in its 16th year, Get Online Week has helped hundreds of thousands of people to get online for the first time and improve their digital skills. 100% Digital Leeds have pulled together information about events in celebration of Get Online Week taking place across Leeds from the 16 - 22 October.

Digital inclusion in Woodsley and Holt Park
In July 2023 100% Digital Leeds appointed a Digital Inclusion Officer to build community capacity to support digital inclusion for improved health participation in the Woodsley and Holt Park Local Care Partnership (LCP) area, with the support of NHS Health Inequalities funding.

Pioneering Research on Hybrid Delivery - a partnership project between Leeds Beckett University and 100% Digital Leeds
The 100% Digital Leeds team are working closely with Leeds Beckett University’s Centre for Health Promotion Research on a pioneering research project: A hybrid future? A mixed-methods study to explore how voluntary and community sector organisations could combine in-person and digital service delivery for adults with learning disabilities and/or autistic people.

Collective Workshop - Creating An AI Literacy Training Model

DigiCo are inviting digital skills trainers working in formal, non-formal and informal education to participate in a collective workshop to define successful methodologies to teach artificial intelligence literacy and embed it in digital literacy training curriculums. Family Fund discover digital workshops

Socioeconomic inequalities in digital health services report
The UK’s health and social care system increasingly relies on digital services and the flow of patient data to deliver care to tens of millions of people. Digital transformation is intended to fuel innovation and efficiency and improve patient experience. However, there is a risk that digital healthcare can exacerbate existing health inequalities.
Over the last three years, the Ada Lovelace Institute, in partnership with the Health Foundation, has explored how the accelerated adoption of data-driven systems and digital health services interact with health inequalities in the UK.

Mobile UK report on the role of mobile connectivity in talking the digital divide
From exclusion to inclusion, how mobile connectivity can further narrow the digital divide is a new report from Mobile UK highlighting the growing importance of mobile connectivity and the need for better Government policy. Read the report to see Mobile UK’s five recommendations to redress the digital divide.

Some funding links will take you through to the Funding Leeds website and you will need to register to be able to access the information. Once you have registered for free you will have access to a national database of funding sources and get regular email updates on your funding area of interests.
McCarthy Stone Foundation - Christmas Connections 2023
Grants are available for organisations in Great Britain who can provide initiatives for people over 65 years old over the festive period.
Amount: £1000
Deadline: Applicants should check the McCarthy Stone Foundation website to confirm if the programme is still open as no deadline is stated.

The Happiness Fund
Small grants are available each year to support grassroots, neighbourhood-based community projects in the UK which improve mental health and wellbeing, inclusion, and learning and skills development in local communities.
Amount: £5000

Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund
One-off grants are available for front-line charities, voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations based in England that are struggling to meet increased demand for their critical services due to the increased cost of living.
Amount: Between £10,000 and £75,000

Fix the Digital Divide
Applications are now open to apply for a Digital Inclusion Capability Grant or a Digital Inclusion Impact Grant. There’s two Q&A sessions to learn more about the Fund and ask any questions about the current grant opportunities:

The Royal Countryside Fund - Supporting Rural Communities Programme
The funding is intended to support innovative projects that will create a long-term difference in remote rural areas of the UK.
Amount: Grants of up to £25,000 over two years are available

Leeds Civic Trust Community Fund
The scheme seeks to support local groups to create and deliver initiatives that address the 'celebration of place' theme.
Local people should engage in the proposed activity via consultation and/or participatory activities.
Amount: Grants from £10,000 to £20,000 to be split equally across two years are available

International Day of Disabled People 2023
Grants will be awarded to organisations wanting to undertake activity around this theme but also to celebrate the contributions of disabled people to society and the City of Leeds and highlight the barriers disabled people still face in fully participating in society.
Amount: Up to £350

Forum Central invites you to the launch of the second round of the Transforming Mental Health Grants
30 October 1 - 2pm, online
There are two pots totalling £415,000 – one grants pot has five specific focus areas, where organisations can apply for up to 50k. The other pot is more open, and focuses on hyper-local provision, where organisations can apply for up to 20k. All will fund activities and support for people with complex mental health needs, and are open to third sector organisations.

Grants are available to fund charitable projects that benefit people living in the UK. Grants can be used for costs associated with projects that help people in need, including for the purchase of items of equipment.

Asda Foundation - Empowering Local Communities Grant
Grants are available to community groups in the UK to support a broad range of activities which can contribute towards transforming their community and improving the lives of people in their community. Support to help with the cost of living rise and for refugees is available.

British Science Week - Community Grant Scheme
Grants are available for community-based groups and organisations in the UK to create events or activities that engage underrepresented audiences as part of British Science Week (BSW). Digital and hybrid physical/digital activities can be supported.
Amount: £1000

W.G. Edwards Charitable Foundation
Grants are available to UK registered charities providing care for older people over the age of 65 years in the UK. The Foundation gives grants to capital projects, such as refurbishment, furniture or equipment and innovative projects such as IT for the elderly, fitness classes, lunch clubs, gardening projects, etc.
Amount: Although there is no set minimum or maximum grant, grants tend to be between £1,000 and £3,000. The average grant is £1,500.

Hedley Foundation
Grants are available to smaller charities operating across the spectrum of social need in the UK. The Foundation supports the following - young people, people with disabilities, the elderly and terminally ill and other social welfare projects such as those for carers, the homeless and ex-offenders.
Amount: Typically, grants of up to £5,000 are regularly made and occasional larger sums are given to charities where high impact can be achieved. Smaller charities may receive smaller grants of £250 upwards.

Scurrah Wainwright Charity
Grants are available to charitable organisations for projects taking place in Yorkshire with an emphasis on social reform and tackling the root causes of social inequality through innovative work.

Middleton Elderly Aid online timetable
Every Thursday 1 - 2.30pm, Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, LS10 4LF
Middleton Elderly Aid are running computer classes to help with any concerns regarding accessing the internet. They can support with online shopping, how to Skype friends and relatives and see photographs and videos online. There are different topics each week and staff and volunteers are on hand to support.
Bring in your own computer and they can spend time helping you to get the most out of your device or you can join their tablet lending scheme. This enables you to use a brand new tablet for 6 weeks with the choice of returning it to them or paying the purchase price and keeping it as your own.

Highrise Project digital skills workshops
Every Tuesday between 10am and 6pm, Armley Community Hub Lower Ground Floor, LS12 1UQ
The Highrise Project have a range of activities available from a drop in art studio to facilitated sessions with local community artist, Edek Thompson, including a dedicated session just for men. Refreshments and wifi are provided and all activities are free of charge.

Digital inclusion support at Barca
Salim is the Digital Inclusion Worker at Barca and he offers digital support to men in Leeds over the age of 18. He can help with anything related to technology on any device, improving digital skills as well as general digital advice. Topics he can help with include sending emails, adding attachments, introduction to social media, downloading and using new apps, improving health and staying safe online. BARCA also has tablets available to loan.

Exciting update to Learn My Way - new audio feature added to the learning topics
Good Things Foundation have announced the addition of a text to speech feature for Learn My Way. This function is especially helpful for people with lower levels of literacy or whose first language isn't English. The feature works on any device, without the need to install additional software. Simply select the speaker icon in the top right hand corner of the topic window and it will read out what's on the page.
Charity Excellence Framework's free charity AI programme
Charity Excellence Framework have now fully launched their free charity AI programme, including the funding bid writer and ChatGPT training. Their Charity AI Toolbox makes AI easily accessible for all charities. The simple practical and free AI services, guides, tools and training they provide aims to support all charities to quickly and safely start benefitting from using AI.

AbilityNet have compiled a list of guides which offer step by step instructions on how to adapt your phone, computer or tablet to meet your needs. You can search for a specific need (e.g. making text larger) or filter the guides based on your symptoms (e.g. hand tremor) or condition (e.g. dyslexia).

Unfolding - free 6 week training course for your community volunteers
Leeds’ volunteer workforce is faced with the potential of burnout and exhaustion due to the impact of Covid and the cost of living crisis. By training participants in self-care, boundary-setting and most of all conversation skills that bring change, volunteers will learn how not to take on too much whilst ensuring that the people they support feel heard and supported.

University Volunteer Fairs
Volunteers can help provide those all-important extra pairs of hands which are necessary when trying to help as many people as possible in your digital sessions.
However sourcing volunteers to help network organisations deliver their digital assistance to service users continues to be challenging. Volunteering fairs provide a valuable chance to reach out to cohorts who may not be aware of such needs and opportunities.
