Tackling data poverty in Leeds
In September 100% Digital Leeds is hosting two free events sharing the city’s approach to tackling digital poverty, as part of Leeds Digital Festival. Attendees will be able to find out more about our approach to gifting data, and how they can support people to access free data.

Be online stay safe (BOSS) project update
The Be Online Stay Safe (BOSS) project is a partnership between Leeds Older People’s Forum (LOPF) and 100% Digital Leeds. With the support of the DCMS Media Literacy Programme Fund the project aims to overcome the digital inclusion barriers older people in diverse communities face to accessing media literacy, tackling challenges set out in the DCMS Online Media Literacy Strategy. Creating new cross-sector partnerships to support digital transformation
100% Digital Leeds is working with Voluntary Action Leeds and Leeds Community Foundation to explore how businesses in Leeds can support the digital skills and capacity of the city’s third sector. Sign up for the networking event via Eventbrite.

Arts in care digital programme open for bookings
The 2023 Arts in Care Digital Programme is a week long programme of workshops and activities aimed at people receiving care, following the National Day of Arts in Care Homes which this year is on Sunday 24 September. The Leeds Digital Festival is an open, collaborative celebration of digital culture in all its forms and this year 100% Digital Leeds are hosting three sessions that can be booked via Eventbrite.

This event will highlight how this cross-sector strategic approach to data-gifting enables people struggling to afford connectivity to access the digital tools and services they need to support their health, employability, and social inclusion. 100% Digital Leeds are keen to support the development of any funding bids with a digital inclusion element, or to help you embed digital inclusion throughout your project. If you would like support contact us.
Some funding links will take you through to the Funding Leeds website and you will need to register to be able to access the information. Once you have registered for free you will have access to a national database of funding sources and get regular email updates on your funding area of interests.
Stay well this winter grants
Grants are available to community groups for projects in Leeds that can help people who are the most vulnerable to the adverse effects of cold and severe weather.
Amount: Up to £3000

Peer support grants
Funding is available for small one-off grants to support the running and increased engagement of peer support groups for people with long-term conditions. Funding can be used for engagement, transport, venue costs, equipment, training, and promotion of events.
Amount: Small grant up to £100, medium grant up to £200, large grant up to £500
Deadline: 17 September

Household support fund Leeds: cost of living grants
This funding is to be distributed to organisations who support Communities of Interest including cultural diversity, people with mental health (including Young People), learning disabilities, physical and sensory impairment and older people.
Amount: Up to £5000
Deadline: 24 September

Clarion futures digital grants
Grants are available for projects committed to getting Clarion residents, and the wider community, online. Projects must aim to support individuals to improve their digital skills to safely and confidently access online services on a regular basis.
Amount: Between £1,000 and £5,000
Deadline: 27 September 12 noon

The community organisations cost of living fund
One-off grants are available for front-line charities, voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations based in England that are struggling to meet increased demand for their critical services due to the increased cost of living.
Amount: Between £10,000 and £75,000.

Yorkshire Dance zoom sessions
Every Tuesday, starting 5 September 11am - 12 noon
Join Yorkshire Dance for free fun and lively dance sessions online every Tuesday. Led by professional dance artists it’s a great way to keep active, promote body awareness, holistic health and fitness. You can do as much or as little as you like and you can be seated or standing. The classes are all adaptable to different mobility levels and care staff are encouraged to be part of the fun! Zoom links will be sent out before the session begins. Sim gifting from Leeds Libraries
To support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, community hubs and libraries across Leeds have free mobile sims available with up to six months unlimited calls and texts plus data to help people stay in touch and get online.
People can be signposted to Central Library, Armley Community Hub and Library, Reginald Centre Community Hub and Library, Compton Centre Community Hub and Library and Dewsbury Road Community Hub and Library.
Tablet lending from Leeds Libraries
Leeds Libraries can support community organisations’ digital inclusion programmes by loaning iPads with data to be used with service users. Please email Leeds Libraries to express interest.
iPads will also be available for individuals to borrow at Armley Community Hub and Library, Holt Park Community Hub and Library, Seacroft Community Hub and Library and Hunslet Community Hub and Library.
Vodafone digital skills helpline
Do you need help to get online and grow your digital confidence? The free Vodafone Digital Skills Helpline is available to help you to access dedicated support in getting online 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Call 0800 987 4110, or visit the Vodaphone website for more information.
West Yorkshire senior travel pass
To make it easier for people to order new Passes or renew their existing ones, West Yorkshire Combined Authority has introduced online applications. Online Pass renewals can be carried out up to three months before the expiry date. Visit the WYCA website for more information.
The little guide to... preventing fraud and cyber crime
Several million cases of fraud and of computer misuse are reported to the police every year. It's staggering, but even more staggering is that so many of those crimes could have been prevented by making a few small changes in online behaviour. Metropolitan Police have created the Little series of books and videos to explain some of the most common scams and give advice on how to avoid falling victim to them. These will be given to the first 500 organisations who register their Get Online Week event. Research project in partnership with Leeds Beckett University
A hybrid future? - a mixed-methods study to explore how voluntary and community sector organisations could combine in-person and digital service delivery for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.
At the start of September, members of the Autism and Learning Disabilities Digital Inclusion Network are attending a number of workshops with staff from Leeds Beckett University to share their first hand experience of using digital technologies with their members.
The aim of this research is to create guidelines for best practice for organisations who wish to use digital technologies effectively with autistic people and people with learning disabilities. The research findings will be reflected back to the network but will also be shared with organisations nationally. Email Nicky Lines if you would like to be involved.
Through the Maze WhatsApp updates
Through the Maze have now launched WhatsApp updates for people with a learning disability, their families and carers, and their support staff. Left out: How to tackle digital exclusion and reduce the poverty premium
Digital exclusion intensifies the pain of cost-of-living crisis for low-income households already paying hundreds of pounds more for basic goods and services. This groundbreaking report by the Centre for Social Justice sheds light on the hidden reality of digital exclusion in the UK. The report reveals that the number of households without internet access is nearly double the official estimates provided by Ofcom, indicating that the cost-of-living challenges disproportionately affect the poor and elderly.
