Arts in Care Digital Arts Programme 2023 artist call out

The Arts in Care Homes Day programme will be a series of arts and creative events and activities delivered by arts organisations and available for care providers to engage with a digital element, between Monday 25  and Friday 29 September 2023.

In June we held a webinar for artists, arts and cultural organisations and other interested parties to hear more about the proposed plans for Arts in Care Homes Day in Leeds and find out how they can get involved by contributing an activity to the programme. The Leeds Autism Services Podcast

Listen to the June edition of the podcast here where you can hear from Nicky Lines, 100% Digital Leeds' Autism and Learning Disability Digital Inclusion Coordinator talk about the work the team does across Leeds with autistic adults, the Autism and Learning Disability Digital Inclusion Network (ALaDDIN) and how she co-produces opportunities with partner organisations. 

Growing Talent Digital Leeds

100% Digital Leeds has partnered with Ahead Partnership as part of their Growing Talent Digital Leeds programme on a social action project focussed on digital inclusion. Young people from Mount St Mary’s Catholic High School, Leeds and Bishop Young Academy were called upon to help 100% Digital Leeds understand how families local to the York Road area of the city might experience digital exclusion and to help shape the digital inclusion support offer available at local community venue The Old Fire Station.

Events and training

The Old Fire Station digital drop-in sessions

Following on from the recent appointment of a digital inclusion officer, The Old Fire Station in Gipton has launched drop-in digital sessions. These run every Thursday between 10am and 1pm and everyone is welcome. The mobile Community Hub is parked outside all morning until 12noon who can help with council transaction queries.

Online Centres Network digital inclusion for older people meet-up

Online Centres Network bring together organisations that support older people to discuss what works, share tips and resources and ask for support.

Online Centres Network meet-up: How our hubs make digital more accessible

This is an open forum for digital inclusion hubs to talk to one another about how they support people in their communities to access the digital world.

The July meet-up will focus on accessibility featuring ambassador hubs who will share how they support people to make digital devices and learning accessible to them. This might include adaptive technology, making use of inbuilt settings and specialist apps.

Arts Together partner meeting

Arts Together is a growing network of arts and community partners who are working together to ensure that the arts in Leeds and beyond are as welcoming and accessible as possible for everyone.

The theme of the next partner meeting is Arts in Care Homes Day where 100% Digital Leeds will talk about digital inclusion and how organisations can get involved in September's Arts in Care Digital Programme.  

Ascendance neuro dance zoom class

An energy boosting, medium intensity workout that infuses specific exercises for the body and mind with the playfulness of dance. Come as you are, and dive into an inclusive dance community. This class blends 30 minutes of dance cardio with 15 minutes of choreography to upbeat music from around the world. Suitable for Parkinson’s, MS and other neurological conditions.

Online Centres training sessions

Various training sessions available from the Good Things Foundation to support the National Digital Inclusion Network including upcoming an session on Digital Champions Training. See the Good Things Foundation website for more information and to book.


Funding opportunities 

100% Digital Leeds are keen to support the development of any funding bids with a digital inclusion element, or to help you embed digital inclusion throughout your project. If you would like support contact us.

Each funding link will take you through to Funding Leeds website and you will need to register to be able to access the information. Once you have registered for free on the website you will have access to a national database of funding sources and get regular email updates on your funding area of interests.

Community Grants Fund for the HATCH Area

Funding for the local voluntary, community, social enterprise and faith sector working with communities in Burmantofts, Richmond Hill, Harehills and Chapeltown to build on existing good work and further improve the health and wellbeing in our most underserved of communities.

Amount: Two funding pots are available, up to £1,500 and £1,500 – £5,000

Deadline: 5pm on Friday 30 June

The Leeds Digital Inclusion Fund

Leeds Community Foundation are pleased to be collaborating with Leeds City Council’s 100% Digital Leeds team to fund the development and delivery of sustainable digital inclusion interventions in Leeds.

Grants are aimed at ensuring that individuals and communities in Leeds have the skills, support, and equipment to be active online, now and in the future. 100% Digital Leeds can support you with your application, please email the team for more information, you can access a blog about the fund on the 100% Digital Leeds Website.  

Amount: Up to £10,000

Deadline: Tuesday 4 July 12 noon

ASDA Foundation Empowering Local Communities Grant

Empowering Local Communities is an Asda Foundation grant for local groups aimed at supporting a broad range of activities which contribute towards transforming communities and improving lives.

Amount: Between £400 and £1600

Deadline: Friday 21 July

Migrant Help Community Hubs Grant Scheme

Small grants for not-for-profit community hubs that serve asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in the UK. The charity Migrant Help is currently accepting applications from not-for-profit organisations across the UK that need a small grant to start a new community hub, or expand an existing hub, in order to support asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of modern-day slavery in the UK.

Amount: Two grants are available - Small bridging grants of up to £2,000 and sustainability and start up grants of up to £5,000

Deadline: Monday 31 July

Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust

The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust offers funding to UK registered charities whose work takes place in the UK. The funding is intended to support those in society who face the greatest challenges and whose opportunities are the most limited.

Amount: The Trust awards grants of either £1,000 or £5,000 depending on the grant round.

Deadline: Monday 31 July

Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales: d/Deaf and Disabled People's Organisations

The funding is for organisations who are led by the communities they serve and alongside providing immediate crisis support and working with people over the longer term to help them break free from poverty and achieve their potential.

Amount: Successful applicants will receive grants of £75,000, over three years (£25,000 per year).

Deadline: Thursday 31 August

Which? Fund 

Funding for new research projects exploring the consumer harms faced by diverse and disadvantaged communities, or identifying innovative solutions to these issues.

Amount: There is a total funding pot of £75,000, no set minimum or maximum grant.

Deadline: Monday 18 September

Moor Allerton Elderly Care Digital Health Hub 

Starting Wednesday 19 July, 1:30 - 3:00pm. 57 Cranmer Bank Moor Allerton LS17 5JD

Moor Allerton Elderly Care (MAE Care) are holding a digital health hub every month from 19 July. The first session will be about the NHS App, how to download, register and use the App. For further info call 0113 2660371 or email MAE Care

Sim Gifting from Leeds Libraries

To support people struggling with the cost of living crisis, library hubs across Leeds have O2, Vodafone and Three mobile sims available with up to 6 months unlimited calls and texts plus data to help people stay in touch and get online.

People can be signposted to Central Library, Armley Community Hub & Library, the Reginald Centre Community Hub & Library, the Compton Centre Community Hub & Library, or Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library.

St Vincent's internet cafe

St Vincents off York Road have started up an internet café - this also has a digital advice drop in session which runs on Wednesday from 10am-12noon. They have laptops to use all week, free wifi and people there to help if there are any questions. For more information see the St Vincent's Centre website.

National Device Bank applications open

Applications are open on the Network website until 30th June at 12pm for hubs to receive refurbished laptops from the Device Bank, to give to people that they support. Refurbished laptops will be paired with a MIFI device, and a SIM card preloaded with data. 

National Databank: June 2023

The databank provides free data to community partners so they can distribute this to people they support who are experiencing data poverty. They offer SIM cards with 6 months data pre-loaded for anyone experiencing data poverty. For more information about the databank please visit The Goods Things Foundation website.

Digital Poverty Alliance unveil national delivery plan to end digital poverty by 2030

The Digital Poverty Alliance has launched a National Delivery Plan, setting a multi-sector roadmap to end digital poverty by 2030. The plan outlines the role of key players in the reduction of digital exclusion, with particular value on the unique role local authorities play in supporting citizens to access devices, connectivity and support. With millions being left behind as technologies surge, this joined up approach offers guidance for tackling this social issue.

Digital Culture Network: introduction to digital accessibility

This article from Arts Council England's Digital Culture Network aims to introduce organisations to the principles of digital accessibility, and shed some light on some of the things that are useful to know when creating accessible digital content.

Health and Wellbeing Alliance: Accessibility and Inclusion Guidance

Produced in partnership with the Health and Wellbeing Alliance, this document on the Good Things Foundation website is designed to support organisations to communicate in a way that is accessible to as many people as possible. It will help organisations to remove as many barriers or obstacles that could prevent people accessing their content.

Resources for practitioners working with children and young people

CyberSprinters: NCSC’s updated teaching resources for 7 to 11-year-olds are now available. Young people are growing up in an increasingly digital world, exposing them to both the opportunities and risks of the internet. CyberSprinters empowers them to make smart decisions about staying secure online.

CyberFirst: Practitioners working with 11 to 14-year-olds can access a full suite of resources on the NCSC website, These resources highlight some of the most common cyber scams and malicious activity that a pre-teen and teenage internet user might come across and empowers them to make choices to keep themselves more secure online.

Registering on Learn My Way

Learn My Way is a free online platform from Good Things Foundation that helps people gain basic digital skills and improve their digital literacy to make the most of our online world. This short video explains the registration process for creating a Learn My Way account. It highlights what information you need to register and how to verify your account. You can also find accessibility guidance on the website.

House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee Digital exclusion report published

A new report published by the Communications and Digital Committee has found that by failing to take decisive action to tackle digital exclusion the Government is allowing millions of citizens to fall behind, with multi-billion pound impacts on economic growth, public health and levelling up. It also states that "The government does not have a credible strategy to tackle digital exclusion". Read the full report on the UK Parliament website.

Tablet Lending from Leeds Libraries

Leeds Libraries can support community organisations’ digital inclusion programmes by loaning iPads with data to be used with service users. Please contact Leeds.Libraries@Leeds.gov.uk to express interest.
