Bus passengers can ride for less from 4 September 2022, when the Mayor’s Fares will cap single journeys at £2, anytime, anywhere in West Yorkshire. Day Saver tickets purchased through the MCard App will also be reduced by almost 20% down to £4.50.

Bring your bike to a drop-in ‘Bike Register’ event at City Square, Leeds on Wednesday 7 September from 08:00 until 12:00. City Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will register your bike with a tamper-proof label and upload the details to the national police database, to help prevent bike theft.
Leeds was once known as a ‘Motorway City’ but all that is changing, and the city is on a journey of transformation to become a place for people before cars. World Car Free Day takes place on 22 September 2022. It’s an annual event that imagines what our streets could be like if they were planned around people and asks everyone to set aside their cars for just one day and use public transport, cycle or walk instead. To celebrate World Car Free Day, Leeds City Council, in partnership with Leeds City Walking Tours, is offering three free, guided walking tours. The hour-long tours will explore how recent pedestrianisation and cycling improvements in the city centre are helping to move Leeds away from car-dependency, helping to tackle the climate emergency, improving air quality, and increasing enjoyment of our public spaces. An ambitious new road safety strategy launches on 22 September. Leeds Vision Zero 2040 Strategy and Action Plan sets out how we intend to eliminate fatal and serious injuries from the city’s roads by 2040. The launch date coincides with Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death – a national road safety campaign). Vision Zero, the first strategy of its kind in West Yorkshire, will focus on making roads safer for those who are most at risk from traffic danger, including those who walk, cycle or ride powered-two-wheelers to work. Proposals include preventing dangerous and anti-social driving, enforcing speed limits, and designing safer roads to create a ‘safe system’. Love to Ride UK’s annual campaign to get more people riding their bikes more often is back this September. There are over 500 fantastic prizes on offer for individuals and workplaces with the most points, including swanky bikes, cycling goodies and a dream holiday worth £4,000. The new East Leeds Orbital Route (ELOR) includes segregated infrastructure to help more people walk or cycle to work. The route, which opened in August, is 7km long and provides 14km of dedicated cycleways, pedestrian, and equestrian pathways, as well as specially designed access points to improve connectivity to surrounding areas. Arch bridges allow walkers and cyclists to cross over the carriageways and large, wide underpasses allow passage underneath. It was launched by Leeds City Council’s Active Travel Champion and double-Olympic gold medal winner Alistair Brownlee. The route is a new section of the Leeds outer ring road and connects the A6120 (Outer Ring Road Shadwell) in the north to Manston Lane in the south.
