Leeds homeowners encouraged to apply for free solar panels before scheme ends

For a limited time only, low-income homeowners in Leeds can apply for free solar panels and insulation from Leeds City Council and Better Homes Yorkshire that help cut energy bills and keep homes warm. Households with a total income of £30,000 or less (or who receive certain benefits) can apply for the scheme. Once you have applied, we’ll also need to confirm that your home’s eligibility for the scheme. 150 properties in Leeds have already benefitted, apply now before the scheme expires in March.

Call 0800 597 1500 or visit the Better Homes Yorkshire Website to learn more.

Council’s net-zero schemes create dozens of green jobs

Twenty-six skilled jobs have been created locally in a key green industry as a result of the council’s investment in low carbon upgrades.

Energy and water services company Cenergist has opened a new office in Beeston to house thirteen new full-time employees and thirteen existing staff relocated to Leeds—all working to deliver two major council decarbonisation programmes.

Labourers, project managers, quantity surveyors and tenant liaison officers will install low carbon heat pumps in multi-storey council housing, leisure centres, schools, and homes from older people across Leeds. Learn more about the council’s public building decarbonisation schemes here.

Majority of residents support ambitious transport strategy aiming to make Leeds a ‘city where you don’t need a car to get around’

Following an investment in local transport of £380 million already completed or underway, the council's new Connecting Leeds strategy sets out plans for further improvements over the next 9 years. The strategy aims to encourage and support greater uptake of transport, cycling and walking to help make Leeds a cleaner and greener city. Learn more about our transport plans.

Throughout November Leeds residents are asked to collect acorns, beech nuts, chestnuts and conkers which will then be collected and taken to the council’s specialist plant nursery, The Arium. The seeds will be planted back into Leeds green spaces and contribute to the Council’s target of planning approximately 5.8m trees over 25 years, helping grow the White Rose Forest.
