The stress bucket model for Stress Awareness Month
Sally demonstrated the stress bucket model, highlighting how we all have different capacities for managing stress, and how the model provides a great opportunity to discuss how we can alleviate stresses both big and small.

Young people, gambling and gaming
Wednesday 3 November 2021, 12 midday to 1pm
Gambling among young people has received much political and media interest over the past few years, particularly with the emergence of gambling as part of online gaming. Surveys suggest that prevalence of problematic gambling among young people is as high as it is among adults. With young people having spent significantly more time on their devices during the COVID pandemic there are concerns about exposure to gambling products.
This interactive online webinar aims to:
- explore gambling participation among secondary school pupils in Leeds: How common is it? What do they play? What are their views on harm caused by gambling?
- increase your knowledge of gambling-related harms among children and young people
- increase your skills in spotting the signs of gambling-related harms and where to signpost or refer young people or ‘affected others’
- give you the opportunity to make suggestions for future communication and training plans regarding young people’s gambling in Leeds
This webinar is suitable for any frontline workers or volunteers who work to support the health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families.
The session will be facilitated by Myrte Elbers and Emma Newton (Office of the Director of Public Health, Leeds City Council) and Jack Killingray (Leeds Community Gambling Service).

HIV: the other pandemic
Thursday 18 November 2021, 11am to 12 midday
The definition of a pandemic is an outbreak of a disease that has spread across several countries or continents. It has been 40 years since the first recorded case of AIDS in 1981, since then 36.3 million people globally have died from AIDS-related illnesses, 680,000 of them in 2020. HIV has gone from being a terminal diagnosis to an easily managed condition that is impossible to pass onto others when on medication. However the biggest challenge has remained unchanged for 40 years: HIV disproportionally affects people in vulnerable populations that are often highly marginalised and stigmatised. One way to change this is education.
The session will cover:
- HIV facts and figures – looking at HIV prevalence in Leeds, the UK and how it relates globally
- HIV prevention – the prevention tools we have available
- HIV testing – who needs to be tested, how often, and where can they go?
- HIV support – what Skyline can offer to support those living with HIV and what you can do to support people living with HIV
This webinar is suitable for people working within health, social care or third sector, or anyone who wants to know more about HIV in society today.
The session will be delivered by Becky Pullin and Becki Pugh from BHA Leeds Skyline - a HIV support and prevention service.
