Get Online Week 18th-24th October

Top tips for running a Get Online Week event

Get Online Weeks selfie frames

There's still time to register to run your own event for Get Online Week 2021! To help you get started here are some top tips:

  • You don't need to be an IT expert or to have done anything before around digital, it's about raising awareness of the benefits of being online and celebrating that!
  • It's really good to avoid using jargon and mentioning 'digital' and 'online' too much in your promotion if you would like to attract people who aren't online.  Try using phrases such as "Join in fun activities, find out more and try something new!"
  • It can be part of one of your existing sessions or activities that week
  • Try combining digital activities with offline activities – for example a 'Games Day' – with board games/jigsaws and have devices with game apps/jigsaw apps out for people to try too
  • Have a range of activities on offer – invite local partner organisations/services in to provide an activity
  • Refreshments!
  • Have fun! - Energy, Enthusiasm and Extra cake!

Digital Courses from Learning Partnerships

Two new digital courses are available from Learning Partnerships:

  • Basic Digital Skills: Learn the basics including email, word processing, internet usage, using a variety of devices (phone, laptop, desktop, tablet) and internet safety.
  • ICT course: For learners who already have basic digital skills and would like to develop in areas including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

Additionally, Learning Partnerships have built a digital inclusion needs assessment into their processes, and all digital skills and equipment needs will be supported.

Digital Entitlement

We are now asking that an element of digital entitlement be included to all our course offerings. This will vary from course to course and develop as the year goes on, but we are hopeful that helping people to become more digitally ready will create better prospects for their future.

Process:

  1. All new learners will be invited to an in-person meeting to complete their enrolment form and initial assessments (Eng/maths/digital skills). These usually take about 45 min and will be conducted by one of the Adult Learning team.
  2. Once completed, learners will be contacted and told which course(s) are best suited to their level and needs. There is always opportunity for progression to other courses and to access further support at Learning Partnerships if required.
  3. Learners will receive confirmation by phone call, text and email about their new course, tutor name, start date and location information.

Participant requirements for courses: Age 19+; Unemployed or on a low income; If non-EU citizen, must have been in the UK for at least 3 years. Requirements for 1:1 support sometimes depend on post code.
