Building Bridges – crossing the digital divide between parents and children in relation to online gaming

Tuesday 21st September 2021, 12:30pm - 1:30pm, online, book now

Many parents and carers feel out of their depth knowing how to keep their children safe when they game online. Join Parent Zone, the experts in digital and family life, to learn how parents can develop digital resilience and feel more confident managing account settings to control online gaming time, spend and security. A Leeds Digital Festival event hosted by Public Health Resource Centre.

Digital inclusion bid writing workshop

Wednesday, 22nd September 2021, 1pm - 2:30pm, online, book now

Join us at this free online workshop for organisations or groups wanting to access grants funding to support and develop digital inclusion projects. We will look at what makes a successful small grant application and pitfalls to avoid. We will also cover how to use funding for your digital inclusion projects and effective ways to include a Digital Inclusion context in your applications.

‘The Doctor will Zoom You Now’ … Overcoming Digital Barriers to Healthcare

Bevan is an inclusion health practice providing innovative health and well-being services across Leeds, Bradford, and Hull. Hear how they have embedded digital inclusion into their Smart Health Inclusion Peer Advocates programme delivered in partnership with Groundswell, HELM and 100% Digital Leeds, supporting communities including homeless, sex workers, and refugees.

How to run a successful Get Online Week Event

Wednesday 30th September 2021, 3:30pm - 4:30pm, online, book now

Get Online Week is an annual digital inclusion campaign organised by Good Things Foundation. Hear from Online Centres who have run successful Get Online Week events in previous years, and share your own experiences for putting on Get Online Week events. 100% Digital Leeds will share tips on how to host your own Get Online Week event engaging older people with digital.

Supporting people to use technology: an introduction to a new toolkit

In this Learning Disability England webinar the Open University and Veronica  SeeAbility will introduce a new freely available toolkit that organisations can use to support people with learning disabilities to develop their digital skills and confidence.

Be Your Own Boss from Trust Leeds (with digital support)

Be Your Own Boss is an online Self-Reliant Group, supported by Trust Leeds, to think through the considerations of becoming self-employed or setting up your own business, and to have the key features of a business plan in place. Digital inclusion support is embedded throughout and tablets with 4G are available to loan for those who need them. Be Your Own Boss is designed for people who are unemployed. Digital support for people with aphasia from Speak with IT

Speak With IT match people with aphasia with a trained volunteer who will support the person to work on their goals using a variety of of computer therapy programs available on Windows, iPad and Android devices, alongside supported conversation techniques. Speak With IT lends equipment and software to people so that they can test and determine which program best suits their needs. Volunteers visit clients in their homes to support them as they try the various therapies.

Digital Inclusion support from Carers Leeds 

The Digital Inclusion Programme at Carers Leeds provides support on a one-to-one and group basis for carers who would like an introduction to digital technology or would like support in becoming more confident to use a device and its features. Their YouTube channel features a series of videos to support basic digital skills.

Intergenerational support from Your Back Yard 

Combining digital inclusion with health and exercise Bringing Local Generations Together sees Your Back Yard ‘buddy up’ young people from likes of The University of Leeds with older adults across Leeds, who’ll have a couple of weeks to get to know each other and develop digital skills and confidence before joining in group zoom cafes and face-to-face meet-ups for themed intergenerational chats and gentle exercise.

‘Tech Troubles’ group from Creative Frame CIC

Digital skills support group meeting every other week in Cross Green, starting this October. Examples of the sorts of things that have been bothering you are: How does eBay work, learning about YouTube, using a smartphone. Sessions will take place every other Wednesday, 7:45-9:45pm (first session Wednesday 6th October)

Digitisation of NHS Healthy Start voucher programme

The Healthy Start programme - supporting low-income families to access healthy foods for children aged under 4 - is moving away from paper application and physical vouchers to an online application and pre-paid card. 100% Digital Leeds worked with FoodWise Leeds and Public Health Leeds to deliver a training session for staff and volunteers working with families. Watch the video of the training session 

Free digital advice for charities from Digital Candle

Digital Candle is a free service for charities who want a one hour call with a digital expert. Charities can get advice on any aspect of digital or digital marketing, from digital strategy to Google Ads and from remote service delivery to social media. Just visit their website and ask a question.

Digital inclusion meeting for organisations supporting people experiencing homelessness 

100% Digital Leeds are working with LCH to bring together organisations supporting people experiencing homelessness to look at how we can work collaboratively to support digital inclusion in the community. The next meeting is Wednesday 13th October at 10am via Teams. For an invitation please contact us.

Flint Family Fund (short deadline)

The focus of the Fund is to support disadvantaged children and young people in Leeds through: Supporting a good education for all and helping to remove any barriers to learning; Creating opportunities to engage children and young people in sport to improve physical and mental health & wellbeing; To encourage lifelong passions, interests and personal development; and Raising aspirations and confidence and giving support to future careers and dreams. The Fund supports children and young people aged between 5-25 years old. Can be used to develop activity such as homework clubs. More information and to apply

The Wesleyan Foundation 

Small (up to £2000) and Large (£2000 to £10,000) grants programmes  to support charities, constituted voluntary and community groups that focus on education, health and social solutions. Wesleyan would like to support organisations who focus on specific areas of work including mental health, social prescribing, employment, the elderly, isolation, and domestic violence. Leeds Civic Trust Community Heritage Fund

The Community Heritage Fund seeks to support grassroots activity that celebrates and promotes the best of Leeds and its communities. Leeds is full of rich and diverse histories, heritage and stories, and grants of between £10,000 and £20,000 are available to support communities over two years to explore, share and celebrate these across the city. Black and Minoritised Women's Fund 

Funding is available to voluntary and community organisations, led-by-and-for Black and minoritised women, that have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 to support their core costs and enable continued service delivery in England. Grants can be used to fund IT costs, salaries and activities among other things. More information and how to apply.

Housing Advisory Panel (HAP) Funding 

Housing Advisory Panels are groups of tenants from a local area who together decide how to spend a budget for community projects. They also monitor how housing services are working for tenants and suggest improvements to the council. The 11 panels have a total budget of £410,000 to award to projects which benefit tenants and local communities in Leeds. Funded projects need to benefit Council tenants. DCMS Loneliness Engagement Fund 

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is providing grants of between £15,000 and £50,000 for activity that will help reduce feelings of stigma and encourage people to help themselves and others to reduce loneliness. Charities can apply for target groups including: Young people aged 16-25; People with diagnosed mental health conditions; People living alone; People from lower income households; Unemployed people; Disabled people  More information and how to apply
