Works to Wharfe Meadows Park Islands
From Wednesday 18 August, our contractors BAM Nuttall will be carrying out some work to the islands in the river at Wharfe Meadows park for approximately one week.
The work will involve felling 4 trees which will be laid horizontally (called tree kickers, and shown in the adjacent photo) and anchored in position to create a new habitat and pools for fish, as the riverbed is a known spawning ground at this location.
We will also be completing some landscaping work to the river channel during this time, which will include the provision of protective coir rolls to further stabilise the islands in future flood events and introduce native wetland planting on the islands.
We do not expect the work to cause any disruption to the park users and surrounding residential properties.
