‘Want to know more about’ is a series of information sessions that cover topics that are important to you and your local community. The sessions, which are aimed at professionals to improve their awareness and practice around the subjects covered, are free of charge and are presented in an engaging manner by friendly and knowledgeable facilitators.

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) - How to prevent it and better support those who live with it
Thursday 9 September 2021, 11am to midday
Lead specialist midwife in addictions, Alex Whincup, invites you to join her for a webinar to mark the International Day of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
FASD is a spectrum of physical and mental health problems that babies may develop due to pre-natal alcohol exposure.
This session will focus on understanding what FASD is, how it affects families, and how it can be prevented.
During the webinar you will learn about:
- the symptoms of FASD
- the ways in which babies, children and adults can be affected by FASD
- expert tips on empowering women and parents-to-be to avoid alcohol during pregnancy
- what treatments and help are available in Leeds
- how to access family support
This session is suitable for professionals working with women of child-bearing age and / or with families living with FASD, and anyone who wants to know more about preventing FASD.

Smoking and Tobacco Control
Thursday 16 September 2021, 11am to midday
Smoking Cessation and Tobacco Control Lead, Laura Keighley, invites you to join her for a webinar around smoking cession and tobacco control in Leeds in preparation for this year’s Stoptober.
In England, smoking continues to be the largest preventable cause of death, disability, and inequalities in health. The effect of smoking cessation is two fold: improving mental health, and reducing the severity of COVID-19.
This session will focus on what our Stoptober plans are in Leeds and how collectively we can work towards meeting the Government's ambition to become Smoke Free by 2030.
The session will cover the following areas:
- moving forward - Leeds tobacco strategy
- Be Smoke Free Service – updates on the Leeds smoking cessation service and response to COVID-19 pandemic
- busting the myths surrounding mental health and smoking
- what treatments and help are available in Leeds
- buying or selling cheap illegal cigs might not seem like a big deal, but it’s bad news for our community - an introduction to illicit tobacco
This session is suitable for professionals working within health, social care or third sector or anyone who wants to know more about smoking and tobacco control in Leeds.
It will be delivered in partnership by:
