Coronavirus - Support for people & communities - July 2, 2021

Dear resident,

We hope you’re safe and keeping well.

This week we have an update for you about the latest infection rates, vaccinations and details of the returning #LeedsSaysThanks initiative for NHS and frontline workers.

An update on infection rates in Leeds

The latest Leeds infection rates have increased to 354.5 per 100,000, with the positivity rate increasing to 9.7%. The main increase in new cases continues to be among those aged 18-24, although we are now seeing increasing rates in over 60s (59.6 per 100,000). We are also seeing small increases in COVID-19 patients in hospital in Leeds.

The rising case rates continue to be driven by the Delta variant (which is around 60% more transmissible) combined with the easing of restrictions.

It is therefore extremely important that we all continue to follow the current government guidance and remember hands, face, space, fresh air.

We encourage you to keep getting tested regularly and isolate when needed. Check your neighbours are ok and let’s keep working #TogetherLeeds to stop the spread of the virus.

Vaccination update

All adults in England can now book their COVID-19 vaccination. If you haven’t already, book yours online at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ or by calling 119.

With infection rates continuing to rise, it’s more important than ever to get your COVID-19 vaccination to protect yourself and those around you.

If you’d like to attend one of the city’s walk-in vaccination clinics, please visit the NHS Leeds website to find the one most convenient for you.

Join the millions already vaccinated. Vaccination is the most important thing you can do to protect you and your community against serious illness.

Enjoy the Euros safely

If football’s coming home, make sure COVID-19 doesn’t come home too.

It’s safest to meet friends outside in the fresh air where virus particles are blown away.

If you’re heading out to watch the match, remember to wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering in enclosed areas, keep a safe distance from anyone you don’t live with and check into venues with the NHS COVID-19 app.
