Gambling, gaming and young people
Wednesday 21 April 2021, 12pm to 1pm
Gambling among young people has received much political and media interest over the past few years, particularly with the emergence of gambling as part of online gaming. Surveys suggest that prevalence of problematic gambling among young people is as high as it is among adults. With young people spending significantly more time on their devices during the Covid pandemic there are concerns about exposure to gambling products.
This interactive session aims to:
- explore gambling participation among secondary school pupils in Leeds; how common is it, what do they play, what are their views on harm caused by gambling?
- increase your knowledge of gambling-related harms among children and young people
- increase your skills in spotting the signs of gambling-related harms and where to signpost or refer children or ‘affected others’
- give you the opportunity to share your views on our plans to increase communication and training on child gambling in Leeds
This session is suitable for any frontline workers or volunteers who work to support the health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families.
This webinar will be co-facilitated by Public Health specialists from Leeds City Council and GamCare.
