‘Want to know more about’ is a series of information sessions that cover topics that are important to you and your local community. The sessions, which are aimed at professionals to improve their awareness and practice around the subjects covered, are free of charge and are presented in an engaging manner by friendly and knowledgeable facilitators.

Leeds Cancer Awareness
Monday 25 January 2021, 1pm to 2pm
The Leeds Cancer Awareness Project team have been working throughout the coronavirus outbreak to make sure key cancer messages are not forgotten. The pandemic has caused a significant decrease in cancer referrals and the team do not want cancer to be left undetected.
This session will help you to learn more about cancer, which may help you to raise cancer awareness with others.
In this session you will learn about:
- Leeds Cancer Awareness Project and their volunteering opportunities
- early cancer signs & symptoms
- the NHS screening services available
- ways to reduce your cancer risk

Supporting bereaved children, young people and their families
Tuesday 2 February 2021, 12:30pm to 2pm
If you work with children and young people, you may be best placed to support them if they are bereaved.
For many, empathic understanding in familiar environments may be all the bereavement support they require. Others may need more assistance, especially where a sudden death or complicated grief is experienced.
This webinar aims to help you understand how to provide effective support to children and young people during a time of death or dying. This is even more important during a pandemic where anxieties are raised and grief processes interrupted.
This webinar will:
- discuss effective bereavement support and the theories that inform best practice
- look at how to assess the health impact on bereaved children and families and identify practical ways to help
- explore the impact of sudden, complicated and traumatic bereavement (such as a death by suicide) and effective support
- launch an animation designed in partnership with bereaved young people
- explain the Leeds Bereavement Pathway which sets out pathways for accessing additional support
- discover valuable resources and bereavement services available in Leeds

COVID-19 vaccine
Monday 8 February 2021, 12:30pm to 2pm
This session will provide information about how professionals working in Leeds can support community engagement with the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
This webinar will cover:
- COVID-19 and its impact
- vaccine - the facts
- vaccination programme roll-out
- inequalities and vulnerable groups
- barriers to access/ concerns
- how you can support the vaccination programme
- further support and resources
The session is aimed at all colleagues in the public health wider workforce, including frontline workers and third sector staff.
It will be presented by Public Health specialists (Leeds City Council) and an Infection Prevention Nurse (Leeds Community Healthcare NHS).

Dying Matters
Wednesday 10 February 2021, 12pm to 1:30pm
The Leeds Dying Matters partnership has broadened its remit to include bereavement support in the light of the impact of Covid-19.
Our session will aim to give participants:
- an understanding and knowledge of the national and local Dying Matters work
- an opportunity to articulate their opinions on the importance of discussing dying, death and bereavement, particularly in the light of the impact of Covid-19
- an opportunity to consider and reflect on their role in promoting Dying Matters messages

We Are Undefeatable
Monday 22 February 2021, 10am to 11am
The ‘We Are Undefeatable’ campaign aims to create awareness of the benefits of increasing physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviour and clarify misconceptions about people with health conditions moving more. This session will support Healthcare Professionals to challenge these misconceptions. The one hour session aims to support Healthcare Professionals when having discussions and conversations during their appointments with their patients/clients.
The following areas will be covered:
- an overview of physical activity; challenges and misconceptions
- an overview of the ‘We Are Undefeatable’ campaign
- starting the conversation
- support available to you and your patients
This session is aimed at anyone working within the health service in Leeds – Healthcare Professionals, Practitioners, and Social Prescribers, etc. It will be delivered by Active Leeds and Leeds City Council.

Sexual Health Services for Young People in Leeds
Monday 25 January 2021, 10am to 12pm, via Skype
Leeds Public Health and the Health and Wellbeing Team are offering a free sexual health training session.
Sexual health services that provide support, advice, contraception and STI testing to young people are still available, despite the challenges of Covid. This session gives an overview of services in Leeds to help you signpost the young people you support with confidence.
The session forms part of the 3-in-1 training, but is available as a stand-alone session for those who just require service information.
