PHRC News - 9 July 2020

Please find below details of upcoming Want to know more about … webinars.

Want to know more about …

‘Want to know more about’ is a series of information sessions that cover topics that are important to you and your local community. The sessions are free of charge and are presented in an engaging manner by friendly and knowledgeable facilitators.

Please note that these sessions are aimed at professionals, to improve their awareness and practice around the subjects covered. They are not appropriate for members of the public.

Owing to the Public Health Resource Centre being closed until further notice.  We will be running online sessions instead of the usual training-room based sessions.

In addition to the three WTKMA webinars that we announced in June, we have another two sessions from which to choose. Full details of all sessions, including downloadable PDFs, can be found on the WTKMA page.

Enabling Children and Young People’s Physical Activity and Play

Tuesday 4 August 2020, 11:30am to midday

How can we enable children and young people to be active in post-lockdown Leeds?

It is more important than ever to support kids to be active and play, whether at home, out and about, with family or friends.

However, from formal PE lessons to playing in the park, it is not easy to keep up with all the guidance, or opportunities, that could enable children and young people in Leeds to move more.

By participating in this webinar you will:

  • gain confidence to risk assess activities using COVID-19 guidance
  • discover free resources, newly created to support children to be active at home
  • get an early peek at plans to support play over the summer

This webinar is part two of a two-part training session. Part one is a short pre-recorded film - a link will be sent to participants a week before the date of this session.

This session will be delivered by Sally Hall (Public Health, Leeds City Council), Jason Minott (Active Leeds), Donna Russell (Active Schools) and Alex Ogden (Yorkshire Sport Foundation).

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Thursday 6 August 2020, 1pm to 2pm

This webinar has been developed for frontline workers supporting people during this Covid-19 pandemic, including volunteers and befrienders.

This session will provide:

  • an introduction to mental health and wellbeing in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, including anxiety, stress, and loneliness
  • a space to share your ideas – your learning, what’s gone well so far, and what needs you may have for greater support
  • resources to help you support people with their mental health, including the Five Ways to Wellbeing
  • information about signposting to local mental health support

This information session will be delivered by colleagues from Leeds City Council Public Health, and Leeds Older People’s Forum – Time to Shine.
