Welcome to the Public Health Effectiveness Bulletin.  Produced each month, the Effectiveness Bulletin is your gateway to key publications to aid evidence-based practice specifically related to Public Health.

Vulnerable Children National Charities Strategic Relief Fund: prospectus

On 8 April 2020, the government announced a package of £750M of support for the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Coronavirus: A ban on evictions and help for rough sleepers

Impact on BAME women: pressures at work and home

New polling analysis released today reveals the pressure on BAME women during the coronavirus lockdown. 43% of disabled or retired BAME women and 48% BAME men say that they had lost government support compared with 13% of white women and 21% white men in the same group. Over half (51%) of disabled or retired BAME women also said they were not sure where to turn to for help compared with 1 in 5 (19%) of white women.  Read more.


Covid-19 pandemic: 4.5 million become unpaid carers in a matter of weeks

New figures released for Carers Week (8th – 14th June 2020) show an estimated 4.5 million people in the UK have become unpaid carers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is on top of the 9.1 million unpaid carers who were already caring before the outbreak, bringing the total to 13.6 million.  Read more.

Exploring the vulnerability to COVID19 between communities in England

COVID-19 rapid evidence summary: vitamin D for COVID-19

Vitamin D is important for bone and muscle health. It has also been hypothesised that vitamin D may have a role in the body's immune response to respiratory viruses. Although sunlight exposure is the major source of vitamin D for most people, it can also be obtained from the diet or supplements. The 2 major forms of vitamin D, vitamin D3 (colecalciferol) and vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), are licensed for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D supplements are not specifically licensed for preventing or treating any infection, including the novel coronavirus infection that causes COVID‑19.  Read more.
