Ahead of the Spring Bank Holiday and what would normally be considered schools’ half-term break, we are encouraging everyone to stay safe and maintain social distancing as our streets, parks and open spaces are likely to become busier.
To stay safe and help control the spread of the virus, you must only meet one person from outside your household and only if you are outdoors. If you do decide to meet a friend or family member, please continue to observe social distancing and stay two metres away from them.
Information on primary schools opening
We are working with head teachers and the Government to help primary schools to safely increase the number of children attending from 1 June at a pace that their own circumstances allow. Every school is different, so there will not be a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to re-opening primary schools in Leeds. Read our full update here.
Brown bin collections are starting on Monday
Your collection day might have changed. You can check online or download the Leeds Bins app for iOS and Android; and you will also receive a letter with your new collection day.
We're expecting an unprecedented level of garden waste and will try to have extra staff to help with collections, though we can't guarantee all brown bins will be collected in the first few weeks as we still need to prioritise black and green bin collections (which are currently 20% heavier than normal). Thank you for your patience while we get this service running again.

Celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr safely
Muslims in Leeds have shown great fortitude and discipline in following the obligations of the Holy month of Ramadan under the current coronavirus related restrictions. There has been a brilliant response and this has helped in limiting the spread of the coronavirus. Like Ramadan, this Eid will be different. Faith and community leaders in Leeds, the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board and the Muslim Council of Britain have said that prayers and celebrations must take place in a person’s own home.
Information on crematoria reopening
All crematoria chapels, including all burial chapels for funeral services at Leeds City Council managed sites, will reopen from Monday 8 June. Additional social distancing measures will be introduced to ensure the safety of funeral services. More information can be found here.
Parking charges
Parking charges for all our council car parks and on-street parking remain suspended, with priority for NHS, social work staff and other key workers. Remember to park safely, sensibly and legally. Our parking officers will still issue penalties to vehicles parked illegally. Find out more about parking in Leeds.
