Registering as a Cool Space
The London Borough of Wandsworth is currently working to ensure that everyone across the borough has access to a Cool Space to cool down and stay safe in the event of extreme heat in the upcoming summer.
Cool Spaces are indoor spaces for Londoners to shelter from the sun, cool down, rest and take respite on hot days. They may help reduce health risks from hot weather. However, they are not designed to support vulnerable individuals, or as a medical care substitute if someone is unwell from overheating. All Cool Spaces appear on the GLA Cool Spaces map, which is live 1 June - 30 September.
If you think that you could provide a Cool Space for people to shelter, please register your venue below.
You can email rose.joyce@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk if you need further support.

Cycle parking
120 new bikehangars have been installed across the borough, providing secure cycle storage for residents who want to travel more sustainably. The additions mean that Wandsworth is rolling out the most ambitious bikehangar programme in any local authority area. The intention is to make it easier for people to choose cycling as a practical, sustainable, everyday option.
If you need more free cycle parking near your home or work, you can also request a Sheffield stand for your street and make locking up your bike safer and easier.

Anti-idling campaign
Did you know it’s illegal to leave your engine running while stationary? We are supporting the Idling Action London campaign, a behaviour change campaign which is helping to reduce localised air pollution caused by motorists leaving their engines running when stationary.
Motor vehicles are one of the main contributors to air pollution which is bad for the environment and is associated with a number of adverse health effects.
Air pollution particularly affects the most vulnerable in society including children, the elderly, and those with heart and lung conditions.
Avoid idling whenever possible to reduce air pollution and protect everyone in our borough.

Valuable life skills to learn when you borrow from the Library of Things!
Library of Things is a sustainable way to rent and use tools for DIY or other tasks. But what about for young people, who might not be old enough to use any of these tools?
Well Library of Things doesn’t just offer dangerous appliances, but can also include things like air fryers, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and ice cream makers. These examples are great for young people to do chores or just make food. This can teach children lots of valuable life skills that are good for when they are older and need these skills for everyday tasks.
15% off with HELLOWANDSWORTH for new users.
