Four brilliant organisations have been selected for the first round of Arts for Health & Wellbeing Fund awards
In September 2022, Wandsworth Council called out for arts and cultural organisations to apply for a new funding opportunity, designed to support creative activity focused on health and well-being in the borough. The Arts for Health and Well-Being Fund is part of Wandsworth’s Social Prescribing initiative, bringing together the social and medical models of health and wellness in a holistic approach to healthcare.
Four brilliant organisations were selected in our first round of awards to deliver creative well-being projects in Falconbrook, Shaftesbury & Queenstown, Roehampton and Nine Elms.
Nine Elms Arts Ministry will use the award to build on their successful 2022 pilot project: Creative Soul Dance sessions for adults of all ages. These are a series of gentle movement sessions led by professional dancers, aimed at nurturing physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and accessible to all abilities.
Mental Health charity Sound Minds are supported to continue providing a weekly afternoon session of visual art workshops for people with mental health conditions, and extend their programme to engage with new participants.
Katherine Low Settlement have been awarded the funding to maintain and grow their Elders Sewing Group project, a weekly guided programme of sewing activities for frail and isolated over-60 year olds in Wandsworth.
And Bounce Theatre’s Speech Bubbles project is a year-long creative intervention for children aged 5-7, who have a communication need that affects their well-being.

That's a wrap! 5 temporary sculptures over 5 months have filled the space of Barbara Hepworth’s Single Form (Memorial) sculpture in Battersea Park.
100 years on from Barbara Hepworth’s time as a student at the Royal College of Art, a new generation of Royal College of Art students had the opportunity to follow in her footsteps. Wandsworth Council invited the RCA students to respond to the historical, conceptual or formal context of the park as a public, open, green space in Wandsworth - and we're thrilled with their response!
