Hospital Rooms x Hauser & Wirth Exhibition
Hauser & Wirth gallery is hosting a major exhibition and events programme showcasing the work of arts and mental health charity Hospital Rooms.
As part of the development of two new mental health facilities at Springfield University Hospital, Hospital Rooms are facilitating artworks that will transform how hospital wards are experienced by patients and service users. As one part of this programme, Harold Offeh ran a series of six workshops with students from Springfield Recovery College in Tooting from which the artwork Connections emerged. The programme and artwork by Offeh was funded by the Wandsworth Council Grant Fund and Arts Council England.
The exhibition at Hauser & Wirth shares ambitious new artworks by Michelle Williams Gamaker, Mark Titchner and Harold Offeh all created in collaboration with people with lived experience of mental health services and installed inside mental health hospitals across the UK.

Totally Thames 2022
Don't miss a series of free exhibitions and events in Putney, Battersea and Nine Elms as locations along the River Thames come alive throughout September with activities celebrating London's iconic river.
Part of the Totally Thames Festival is the Kelp Forest art installation (pictured) by Camilla Brendon which explores the wonders of kelp, a brown algae that form forests in shallow waters. The Kelp Forest artwork is made up of materials destined for landfill, juxtaposing the harsh reality of threats to rivers and waterways and the beauty of biodiversity, showing the need to preserve these habitats to combat Climate Change. Call out: Creative Workspace Tenancy at Yelverton Road
Vision Develop Ltd and Wandsworth Borough Council are excited to invite cultural and community organisations to apply for a new home at 2-18 Yelverton Road, SW11 3QG.
The unit will be offered for an initial lease period of 10 years with rent of £1 per annum and expected to be available for the Tenant to commence fit-out in summer 2023.
The deadline for requesting an expression of interest form is 12pm Mon 19 September. Completed forms must then be returned by 10am Sun 28 September.

Tara Theatre: Silence
Silence is a new play inspired by the remarkable personal testimonies of people who lived through the last days of the British Raj. The 1947 partition of the Indian subcontinent into India and Pakistan saw millions uprooted and resulted in unspeakable violence.
Silence is a co-production with Donmar Warehouse, directed by Tara Theatre’s Artistic Director Abdul Shayek.

Live Music at Northcote Records
To celebrate the upcoming bank holiday weekend, on Sunday guests in the 120-seater sun-filled garden will be able to enjoy upbeat covers from Bavarian brass band Oompah Brass from 3.30pm – 4.30pm. Later in the evening, special guest DJ Boca45 will be taking over the decks to spin party tracks into the early hours for The Big Scratch night.

National Opera Studio: Wandsworth Wednesdays

Fuzion Four: Jazz Evening
Local group Fuzion Four are set to play an evening of unique arrangements of jazz standards, Latin music, and light classical pieces.
Fuzion Four’s line-up of cello, tenor sax, piano and cajon lends itself to classical, jazz and Latin music arrangements. Their playlist includes jazz arrangements of Bach’s Prelude in C, Faure's Pavane, Piazolla’s Libertango, Brubeck’s Take Five, and the Game of Thrones theme.

Framed is about a disgraced reality TV producer who plots a path to redemption.

Edie tells the story of a 29-year-old (probably) neurodivergent woman, who is torn between adoration for her controlling Mum and the urge to escape their shared home.

Straight No Chaser: Live Jazz at Northcote Records
The Northcote Records jazz series, Straight No Chaser, continues on Sunday nights throughout September. Some of the capital’s most exciting jazz musicians and ensembles will light up the jazz cannon every week with show-stopping performances at the live music venue on Northcote Road. Taking to the stage will be sensational jazz musicians twisting between composition and improvisation to get heads noddin’ and feet tappin’.

Matt's Gallery, Nine Elms: Nathaniel Mellors Exhibition
A new exhibition Estate by Los Angeles-based artist Nathaniel Mellors brings together a group of video works developed over the last decade, and not previously seen in the UK. Held aloft by estate-agent like sales figures rendered as 4-foot high puppets, the works explore issues of class, knowledge and cultural ownership.

G64: Young People's Drama and Musical Theatre Classes
G64 is an inclusive young people’s theatre company based at Putney Arts Theatre. Their focus is on empowering young people and positive mental wellbeing, through a creative and safe environment.

London Fine Art Studios: Pastel Portrait workshop
The workshop will cover all the elements required to create a beautiful pastel portrait.
Under the expert guidance of founder Ann Witheridge, you’ll look at the materials used and start with portrait drawing block ins. Explore different colours and temperatures, as well as various techniques of layering and blending.

Tavaziva Dance: Free taster general level ability class
Join the first taster dance classes this September with renowned Artistic Director and Founder of Tavaziva Dance Company, Bawren Tavaziva, in partnership with bbodance.
Tavaziva is famous for its beautiful and dynamic synthesis of contemporary, ballet and African dance. Anyone aged 14 years upwards is welcome to attend this general-level ability class with an energetic, supportive and fun environment.

TavIntensive: Dance classes for graduate and professional dancers
Tavaziva Dance is hosting a five-day intensive programme of classes and choreography for graduate and professional dancers led by Bawren Tavaziva.
These in-person studio sessions will focus on strong technique and expressive and rhythmic choreography, which combines the aesthetic line of contemporary dance and ballet with the rhythmic patterns of African dance.
Places are limited to 15 dancers; early booking recommended.

Michael O’Pray Prize: Calling all early-career art writers!
Applicants are invited to send a proposal or pitch for a new text on artists’ film or moving-image, alongside an example of previous writing. Three of the applicants will be selected to realise the proposed text and awarded £500 first prize and £250 for two special mentions. All three texts will be published by Art Monthly and FVU.

Untold Stories: Grants by the Commission for Diversity in Public Realm
Following the first round of funding for the GLA's Untold Stories grants, the GLA has opened applications for the second round, offering funding and support for communities to make a change in our public spaces. Themes projects can focus on include creating something new, highlighting something missing or hidden, or presenting a different story to what already exists.
This fund is part of the Mayor’s Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm programme, which will celebrate and improve diversity across London’s public realm to ensure the capital reflects London’s achievements and diversity. You can read more about the Commission here.

National Lottery Project Grants: Supporting Grassroots Live Music
The Arts Council has launched its final year of grant funding to support activities that help grassroots music venues and promoters to deliver and develop their work. A total of £1.5m funding is available, with grants ranging from £1000 - £40,000.

Battersea Befriending Network: Volunteer as a Befriender
Are you a compassionate, caring an open-minded individual aged over 18 years? If so could you commit 1-2 hours a fortnight to volunteer as a befriender for at least a year? You do not need prior experience, personal qualities and values such as empathy, mutual respect and trust, acceptance of self and others, are more important.
The aim is to offer befriending relationships to adults with experience of mental ill-health, promoting confidence in those befriended to access opportunities and services within the community.
