Don't Miss a Beat This World Heart Day ❤️
World Heart Day on 29 September is a reminder to take simple, practical steps to look after your heart. This year's theme, Don't Miss a Beat, encourages everyone to take action for better heart health, whether that's checking your risk of heart disease, making a healthy lifestyle change, or learning a lifesaving skill.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including heart disease and stroke, affects thousands of people every year. The good news is that many risk factors can be reduced through small changes such as being more active, eating well, stopping smoking and knowing your blood pressure.
If you're aged 40 to 74 and don't have an existing cardiovascular condition, you may be eligible for a free NHS Health Check.
If someone has a cardiac arrest, acting quickly can save their life. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are designed for anyone to use and can be found at locations across the borough.
Hear from Hilda from Kew Community Trust about AEDs in Richmond:
Free Basic Life Support (BLS) training and AED training is available for local residents, community groups and sports clubs.
The Paul Alan Project hosts free training sessions in partnership with Richmond Rugby, giving residents the opportunity to learn how to confidently recognise a cardiac arrest, perform CPR and use an AED.
They are family friendly sessions aimed at people who are new to learning BLS or who want to refresh their skills. Everybody is welcome; all abilities and ages. You will learn baby, child and adult CPR and how to retrieve an accessible defibrillator in an emergency.
