Battery safety reminder following fire at Twickenham depot
Residents are reminded to dispose of batteries safely after a fire at our depot in Twickenham last Friday was caused by a battery that had been incorrectly placed in a paper and cardboard recycling bank. Batteries should never be placed in household recycling and rubbish bins or community recycling banks. When damaged, batteries can spark and cause fires.
WARNING: Blue-green algae found at designated Thames bathing site
The Environment Agency has confirmed the presence of potentially toxic blue-green algae in the River Thames in and around the Designated Bathing Water in Kingston and Ham. To keep everyone safe, we're strongly advising residents and visitors to follow these precautions:
- Do not swim, paddle, or enter the water in affected areas until further notice
- Keep dogs out of the water - blue-green algae is extremely dangerous to pets
- Avoid contact with visible algae near the riverbank
Richmond's students recognised for hard work as exam results are released
Congratulations to the borough's students who have opened their GCSE results or received vocational and technical qualifications today, kickstarting a new, exciting chapter in their lives!

Cargo Bike Fair rides back into Richmond this September
Our Cargo Bike Fair is returning this September – bigger and better, and as one of just five flagship hubs for the London Cycling Festival.
Taking place on Sunday 20 September from 11am to 4pm outside Richmond Station, the free, family-friendly Council event will bring together residents, businesses, cycling experts and community groups to showcase how cargo bikes can transform everyday journeys.

The Fixery celebrates 200 repairs of practical and treasured items
The Fixery has now completed 200+ repairs, saving residents more than £9,000. Based at the restored Grove Gardens chapel in Richmond, The Fixery has quickly become a welcoming space for repairing, sharing and connection. Since it opened in March 2026, The Fixery has welcomed more than 1,000 visitors, with nearly 30 volunteers contributing their time to repair items.
If you're free any day this weekend, The Fixery will be open from 11am to 4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - why not pop in and see it for yourself?
