We've installed a new safety speaker at Teddington Lock to warn against dangerous river jumping
A new messaging speaker has been installed at Teddington Lock to warn people about the serious risks of jumping into the River Thames from a height.
The speaker, which is being used for the first time in the borough, enables a safety message to be shared directly with people gathering near the lock, helping to reinforce existing warnings about cold water shock, strong currents, shallow water and hidden debris.
If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard or the London Fire Brigade.
We're urging residents to take part in the Government's Heathrow consultation - despite "poor timing"
The Government is hosting an online meeting on Wednesday 12 August from 2-3.30pm and is also running a consultation, which closes on 1 September. We're urging you to both take part in the public meeting and ensure you submit your views on the proposals.
The Council says the consultation has been poorly timed for residents throughout, running across the summer holiday period when many families are away or juggling childcare, making it harder for people to engage fully with proposals that could affect them for generations.
