If you're heading overseas during the summer holidays, it's important to check that you and your family are up to date with your vaccinations. Get your vaccinations at least 4–6 weeks before you travel.
Some countries have higher rates of vaccine-preventable illnesses such as measles and hepatitis A, and you may also need extra travel vaccinations depending on your destination.
Before you go:
✅ Check your routine vaccinations, including MMR/MMRV, polio and tetanus
✅ Find out if your destination recommends additional vaccines
✅ Speak to your GP practice if you're unsure what you need
Planning ahead helps protect you, your family and the communities you visit.
Young people born between 1 Sept 2007 and 31 August 2008 are eligible for the new Meningococcal B (Men B) vaccination programme. From 20 July 2026, the MenB vaccine is available through participating community pharmacies. Further information on MenB can be found on the NHS website and UKHSA website.

Make the most of Richmond’s long summer days by getting outdoors and enjoying our award-winning Green Flag parks and open spaces. Whether you’re looking to move more, boost your wellbeing with a friendly health walk, try parkrun, take part in local activities, or simply enjoy nature closer to home, there’s plenty to explore. There are Friendly Parks for All that have equipment for people with mobility issues and walks for people using wheelchairs or buggies.
With warm temperatures continuing, remember to look after yourself by taking regular breaks in the shade, staying hydrated and avoiding the hottest part of the day; where possible find a cool space.
Looking to improve your health and wellbeing this summer? There are a range of leisure centres across the borough including Better centres, offering inclusive fitness sessions, swimming, group exercise classes and wellbeing activities for all ages and abilities. This summer, there are kids activities, soft play and junior gym and fitness classes available. Families can hire a court or pitch to play games like badminton, football or pickleball.
There is also Healthwise, a GP referral programme supporting residents with long-term health conditions to become more active through tailored exercise, specialist support and guided activity plans.

Cool Spaces are publicly accessible places where people can take a break from hot temperatures during hot weather. Cool Spaces are free to access and provide key facilities such as seating for rest and recovery, free drinking water, toilet facilities, and on-site staff to support if needed. Cool Spaces in the borough include libraries, community centres, places of worship and other indoor locations.
Cool Spaces are not a substitute for medical care if an individual is unwell due to overheating. It is important to note that not all listed venues will remain cool during periods of extreme heat, and some may have reduced opening hours, temporary closures or limited capacity. People should use the map's filter to identify locations with air conditioning, which are more likely to be cooler.
